Is anyone here an NCAA B'Ball fan?

If so, let's discuss.  I love pro football (college sucks) but never got into hockey or baseball so I LIVE for this time of year when pro football is more or less done and we've got NCAA Basketball and March Madness to look forward to.

I am a born & bred Marquette Warriors fan.  I was conceived in the wake of the '77 Championship (not.kidding) and have followed the Blue & Gold thru thich and thin.

So! If anyone is wanting to have a friendly March Madness throw down, let me know.  Nothing on the line, just some good old fashioned fun.

Re: Is anyone here an NCAA B'Ball fan?

  • We're on the same page though I think it all is a matter of preference. Like you I prefer the NFL to college football (there is no right or wrong answer, it is whatever you personally like), it is interesting. I am not a huge basketball fan. I watch college basketball during March Madness (the first couple of days of March Madness may be the single greatest event in all of sports) and the NBA during the playoffs (the intensity picks way up). However, I would say I definitely prefer college basketball to the NBA, but professional football to college football.
  • Ditto. I prefer pro over college in every single sport - except basketball. My DH is a huge Duke fan and it's been wearing off on me for many years now. 2 summers ago we took a trip to NC just to go visit Duke/Cameron Indoor Stadium! haha. DH's favorite part of the trip was the Duke bookstore.

Too funny - I always pick Marquette to go fairly far in the tournament! DH and I also place bets each year on our brackets. I've won 4 years in a row now. :)

  • Well, college football is my absolutely favorite. And I love college baseball, too. But I am a fan of college basketball and love March Madness. I'm a Carolina girl..and I'm so sad about their season thus far :(

  • Yes, although I have been raised to strongly dislike Marquette :)

I am a UW fan! However when UW is out of the tournament, I cheer for Marquette, much to my husband's dismay.

    I love March Madness!

  • Me!

As a PP said, college football is my favorite, favorite... but I also love me some college basketball. I'm an Oklahoma State fan (obviously). There are some teams in the East the I like... but I don't really have a preference of one over the other.

  • Hee hee, this is a cool site. It seems like we have some passionate college fans and some passionate pro fans as well. Variety is the spice of life. I am jazzed for the NFL playoff games in a few days. I think it largely depends on what area you live in.
  • DH and I are HUGE NCAA BB fans and followers. I gotta love my Texas team and DH has tons of respect for good coached teams. He's been a BB player all his life so naturally March Madness is his favorite season :)
  • I love college basketball. I have been a Duke fan since high school (my basketball coach told us to watch college games to try and learn from it. Duke was on a lot, so I became a fan).

Going to grad school at Duke only made me more of a fan. I also follow the Duke women's team now. I think Cameron Indoor is one the best venues in the game. Let's Go Duke and Go to Hell Carolina! DH went to Georgia Tech, so we are definitely and ACC household.

I have been to a few women's events, a few Final Fours and few ACC tournaments. We also went to first/second round games last year. I probably pay more attention than DH, but we are both fans.

  • While I don't follow any one team during the regular season, I love love love March Madness.  I usually cheer for Duke (no connection to the school, just a crush on Christian Laettner way back when) and PAC-10 teams.
  • Another UW fan here! I like watching the Badgers play but basketball can get so tense! You're cheering-then yelling-then cheering-then yelling again... it takes a lot out of me after a while.
  • I'm a Louisville fan who actually attended the University of Kentucky, a very rare breed.  Since moving to Phoenix 10 years ago, I have to fly home to Louisville every March to watch the tournament because it's more exciting to watch there.  However my team is in sorry shape this year after losing Earl Clark and Terrence Williams to the NBA.  And Rick Pitino and his extracurricular activities have distracted the team quite a bit this season.  Looks like we'll be lucky to even make the tournament this year after some embarrassing losses to sub-par teams.

I'll be around during March Madness, I just may have to find another team to cheer for.  Most likely it will be the one who is playing UK.  Stick out tongue

  • Definitely!  In our house, we love other sports but college basketball is where it's at for us.  DH is a UConn fan and I'm a Duke fan, but we watch pretty much anything.

  • I am a UK fan through and through.  I'm of course loving this basketball season so far (hope they don't let me down).  I love talking sports but I hate when people can't poke fun at it and take it personal.  A lot of my friends like those other "bad teams" so we poke fun at each other all the time.  Luckily this year, I'm coming out on top!

I don't think we can be friends anymore...haha

Why don't you come to the UK side?  You know we're better! haha

It is quite embarassing but I was just a kid!

I actually find this a little sad. Do you support Kentucky in other things? Did you not like going to school there?

  • My first love is NCAA football...but a close second is NCAA basketball. Especially when it comes to conference play...this time of the year is fantastic. Can't wait for March Madness.

When brackets come out, I'm so down for having a March Madness Nestie Challenge.

This is why I always have and always will hate Christian Laettner.

  • Interesting mix!

Also fun to see a few UW fans come out.  I have a friend who's used to be an assistant of their team.... and a few family members who came out of the UW system (all of them also have MU degrees as well. ha!).

I think MU will be lucky to make NIT at this point, but I am following the rest of the teams closely.  I haven't lost a bracket challenge in 10 years yet. Woot!

  • Why is it sad?  I went to school there so that I could go away to college instead of commuting to UofL.   And at the time, UK had a better journalism school than UofL.  My education had nothing to do with sports and sports teams.  And I LOVED going to school there, best years of my life.
