Hi All!
We love our Swiffer Wet Jet, but the pads are expensive and disposable
Does anyone have any good advice for making ReUsable Swiffer pads or making a more eco-friendly solution ?
I saw some on Etsy, but I'm a more crafty person, so if I can make it I'll make it, if it's too hard I'll buy them from there.....
WDYT?
Thanks!
Re: Re usable Swiffer Stuff
We really like our shark steam mop; it works really well, uses no chemicals, and the pads are machine washable.
You might be able to rig the steam mop pads to fit/stay on a swiffer if you don't want to buy a new appliance. They sell them apart from the machine at places like BBB.
The steam mop does work really well. It was ~$100, get it at BBB w/a 20% off coupon to save a few bucks!
We keep the swiffer still; for instances when muddy paws get into the kitchen before being wiped, mostly!
I don't throw the pads away every time...they last a while just using them for little quick cleanups.
I don't know if a swiffer wet jet is much different than a regular swiffer but here is a pattern to sew a re-usable cloth pad for a swiffer.

I just use old washcloths. They are about the right size.
If I ever run out of them, I would buy cotton terry cloth (or some other kind of nubby absorbent fabric) and cut them into the right sized squares, and serge or zig-zag stitch the edges.
ETA: this is for my regular swiffer. I assumed they were the same.
Do you crochet? This was very easy!
How to Make a Reversible Swiffer Sock - CraftStylishI got rid of my Swiffer Wet Jet months ago. I was reading way too much about the cleaning solution being toxic to children and pets who may somehow ingest the not-quite-dry solution. We have neither but I have friends with small children and I pet sit often.
We bought a Shark Steam Mop and have at least 20 cloths for it. I put the soiled ones in a bucket in the laundry room and do one load once they are all dirty.
We also have the Swiffer Dry and once I ran out of the disposable cloths I picked up some terry cloth wash cloths and use those instead. I love being able to wash and re-use something rather than throw it away.
We use a reusable microfiber cloth pad instead of the disposable swiffer ones.
I recently saw a pattern online somewhere to make covers for the swiffer pads too. Here's some too..

OMG! This is wonderful! I was going to figure out one on my own! Awesome thanks soooo much!
Great ideas ladies! I'm going to try a mixture and give myself some options!
Do a google search for "cuban mop". It's the cheapest and greenest way ive found so far to mop. The "pads" are cut up towels, and the "handle" is just two wooden sticks put together. I love it!
