window boxes and herbs (pip)
Hey ladies! Don't post here alot but I am already starting to think about my veggie garden and window boxes.
Question about window boxes. I have 5 or 6 of those black rod iron ones with the coconut liner. I have a hard time every year finding a new liner in the correct size. And the "cut-your-own" never seems to work. Can anyone suggest some nice window boxes without the coconut liner?
Here is what my current window box looks like

Also, one more question. In these window boxes, I was thinking about planting herbs rather than flowers this year. But it gets full sun for almost the entire day. Will the herbs still grow okay?
Re: window boxes and herbs (pip)
No suggestions for your coconut liners.
Herbs do well in containers, and most like a lot of sun. You'll have to water a lot more than if the herbs were in the ground. Good luck.
I thought that you could resuse the coconut liners for a few years before the disintegrate. Have you tried the manufacture website for the brand window holders? Perhaps they have them online or can point you to where refills are available.
Not sure where to point you for new hanging boxes.
But, I have seen a lot of window boxes designed with herbs in the last year or so at home/garden shows, since people are trying to bring back the veggie/herb garden thing (grow your own for less $). I have seen some really beautiful ones that have herbs and flowers. I would plant mostly herbs and put one or two flowers in there for a bit of color.
