What is your age limit?

....for having babies that is?

I know I do not post that much on here anymore, super busy with an extremely active 19 month old and #2 going to be here before we realize....

But DH and I were discussing if we are done having children and who should get the procedure done and what have you.  I will be 35 this year and have two beautiful boys, I do not plan to get pregnant right away and if we wait a year or so that means I will be 36+ having our last child.  I personally feel this is too much for myself, I realize lots of women have children later in life, but it is personally not really for me.  So just wondering what everyone elses magic number was!

Re: What is your age limit?

  • I want to be done between 30 and 32.  My parents were older when they had kids, and I want to still feel young when I am chasing my kids.

  • Before Joey turns 40 (this year).
  • I personally wanted to have all my kids before I was 30.  And, for me, I didn't want to have alot of years in between Jefferson and a 3rd, if we were going to have one.  If we would have had a 3rd, I would have wanted to TTC when Kate was like 6-7 months old.
  • I'm turning 35 in July, and I am DONE. Physically I'm all good for tearing around after them and could easily shoot out a few more (I love being pg), but mentally, dealing with the sleepless nights with an 8 month old and a 3.5yo starting to mouth off, DONE :)
  • I would say 35 for last kid....

I'm 27 now and not thinking of popping kids this year.. lol.. and We maybe would want 3 if we get 2 of the same sex for the first two.

  • I have always said that I wanted to be done at 35.  I will be 35 in July (1 month after baby #2 gets here).  DH very much wants 3 children (I've always been content with the idea of 2).  I have told DH numerous times that we wont' be having a 3rd child because for 11 years I have said I wanted to be done kids by 35, and he wanted to wait to have kids for a while, so we didn't even start trying for DD until I was 31.  From the time we started trying until I actually got pregnant with DD took a year (when you factor in months of actually trying, the 3 months I was pregnant with the baby I lost, and the month of waiting to try again).  Even starting at 31, we were pushing it for 3 kids by my age 35 deadline.

Part of me thinks I might like another one.  But I always liked the idea of an even number of kids (I have 1 brother).  DH likes 3 kids (because there are 3 in his family).  I always wonder about a 3rd child like, who has to ride alone at the amusement park, and stupid stuff like that.  If we do try for a 3rd, the EARLIEST I would start trying would be a year after new baby was born, which means I'd be almost 37 when the next baby was born.  That is pushing it for me.  Not so sure about that.  Especially since my IPS screening came back with possible abnormalities this time around - scares me to be even older when trying again.

So - I dont' know.  Maybe my cutoff is 35 - but I'll have to see for sure once #2 gets here and starts to be more manageable.

  • I'm not sure if we will be having any more but if we do I don't want to be older then 30. DH is 9 yrs older then me and doesn't want to be older then 37.

  • 30. I know everyone's different and you can't rely on someone else's experiences, but my mom had my youngest sister at 34 and she said that her pregnancies all got harder as she got older. She often preaches now to have children before 30, and I've been influenced by that.

  • 40!  That was my cut off and I made it by 6 months.
  • I always wanted to have my first by 30, and be done by 35, but life just didn't happen that way. Now I'm 2 months away from my 31st birthday, DH is 41, and we know there will be obstacles in our way to have even one.

I'd like to think that if we don't have one by the time I'm 35 we'll stop trying, but who knows what the future holds.

  • Probably done by 35.  I'm sure I used to think that I would have all my kids in my 20's but I didn't get married until 30.  Isn't 40 the new 30 anyways?

I would personally have to agree with this.  I mean does 5 years make that much of a diiference?  DH and I are always mistaken for being in our early to mid 30's and we find that we still have plenty of energy to work, go to school, participate in karate, and gymnastics with our kids, etc.

  • I wanted to have my first kid by 30, but we didn't start TTC until my 29th birthday, and then it took us almost two years to get pregnant, so I had Andrew when I was 31.5. Close enough. With a lot of luck we'll have an easier time with DC #2 -- I hope to be pregnant again sometime this year!

I guess I probably wouldn't want to have a baby after 35, but I'm not sure age is that important. As someone else said in this thread, five years give or take probably doesn't make that much difference.

  • I had both my girls by 27.  Since I want about 3 years between Payton and Baby #3, I will be around 30 or so when I have our final child.   I know that by the time I am in my mid thirties my current partner (work partner that is) will be into retirement and I will be in managing partner mode, so I want to have all my kids past the baby baby phase at that point.

  • I always said 30, however if it takes a few years longer then so be it now..  However, I would probably stop by 35.  That is 9 years away for me so come that time I might be done.  Our next baby might be our last.  I really want 3, but if pregnancy is as painful this time around, I probably will stop.  I had bad pelvic pain that pretty much left me in bed unable to even put on pants some days.  It's supposed to get worse with each pregnancy.  If this one is unbearable, we're done.

Guess we just have to wait and see.

  • I'd always said late 20s to early 30s for no other reason than when my kids are ready to go to college (and ideally move out) we'll be on the downward side of our careers and ready to travel more. I think that we will be within that range when we are done having kids, but who knows.?
  • I had wanted to start by age 30, and finish by 36 or 37. Technically we are still on this path. We tried TTC when was I was 30, but I'm 32 now and unfortunately we are having to deal with the cards dealt to us right now and have big hurdles to get over to try and have even one child.
  • I wanted to have my first child by the time I was 25; and be done by 30-32{and this could happen if baby #1 arrives 5-6 days before eed} but 30 was a big thing for me so we had to have baby #1 by the time DH was 30... this will happen!

But we are not sure on if we will settle with 1 LO or adopt #2... so if that is the case by the time I am 30... I would like to be either preggo or be in the process of adopting!
  • For me I want to be done by the time I'm 35. I'm 31 now and Sophia is 4 months old so we're hoping to start TTC for #2 when she's around 2 years old. I don't want anymore than 3 years in between them, but I also need to go back to work so I can afford to take another year off!! But 35 would be it for me, any older and I just don't think I could do it. I still want to be young when they're young!

  • I'd like to have baby 2 around 29, and baby 3 (if there is a baby 3) at 31/32.

This way the kids would be 2-3 yrs apart which I like, and would also (hopefully) result in the kids being out of the house by the time we're in our 50's so we have the freedom to do solo traveling etc. again.

If life takes a different path and those ages don't end up working out then that's okay too. But for now that's how I see it playing out.

  • Hopefully I'll have two by the time I'm 35... that's 7 years from now.
