I have another Diva Cup question..

Okay, a lot of questions....

When you wash it out, do you put it back in wet? Or dry it off?

Do you wash it in the shower?

Do you use Diva Wash? If not, what do you use?

Is it hard to insert?

Does it stretch out your vagina... permanently? lol Or is this not a concern since the opening closes back after it. I know this is a dumb question, but I'm scared!  That thing is big!

Can you feel the stem? Did you cut it? Did you cut it because you could feel it?

Re: I have another Diva Cup question..

  • Wet - slippery = helpful

I don't take it out in the shower. I'd have to be a contortionist.

    I use hand soap.

Not hard to insert for me, but I've never had any problems putting other things (tampons...) into my vajayjay either. There are a variety of folds to try, and most women find one that works.

It doesn't stretch anything. You're already that big once you get that far back. Sorry.

I cut off the stem because it poked me.

Lol this is what I figured - I mean, it's pretty stretchy up in there - but I was still like "yikes!" when I saw the cup in person.

  • When you wash it out, do you put it back in wet? Or dry it off? - either way works for me, but its usually dry when I insert it in the morning.

Do you wash it in the shower? sometimes, its actually much easier.

Do you use Diva Wash? If not, what do you use? I use Diva wash.

Is it hard to insert? not once you get the hang of it.

Does it stretch out your vagina... permanently? lol Or is this not a concern since the opening closes back after it. I know this is a dumb question, but I'm scared!  That thing is big! nope.  It does look big though.

Can you feel the stem? Did you cut it? Did you cut it because you could feel it? if I can feel the stem its not sitting right. Sometimes I can feel it for a bit after first inserting it.

    nothing

All of this, except I sleep with it in... so the only time it is dry is my first time after having AF arrive.

AND YES IT LOOKED HUGE... I totally freaked out

I had to cut the stem slightly. Just one of the little ridges off. And now it is not pinching.

  • No questions are dumb questions when it comes to the Diva cup...it's definitely scary and such an unknown concept, so I get excited when anyone is even willing to try it out and...I'm glad you're asking questions, maybe it will help others out there to switch, too! anyway...

When you wash it out, do you put it back in wet? Or dry it off? Nope, I insert it wet :)

Do you wash it in the shower? Nope, I wash it in the sink, don't take it out when I shower

Do you use Diva Wash? If not, what do you use?Nope don't use it. I use soap (Dr. bronner's castile soap mixed with water)...I really only 'wash' it at the beginning and end of my cycle...during it I just rinse it out with water...i pull it out, dump it, rinse it, reinsert :)

Is it hard to insert? at first? YES..it was VERY hard to get used to at first and it was hard for me to figure out how to get it right around the cervix. I suggested checking out livejournal...the girls are SO helpful about it there: http://community.livejournal.com/menstrual_cups/

Does it stretch out your vagina... permanently? lol Or is this not a concern since the opening closes back after it. I know this is a dumb question, but I'm scared!  That thing is big! DH is going to kill me for saying this, but I'm starting to think he is very well endowed (he's the only guy i've been with lol), everyone on here said it was scary big, but when I picked it up it was so much smaller than I thought it'd be and it's no bigger than DH thats for sure, lol..but honestly no i don't think it can permanently stretch yo out :)

Can you feel the stem? Did you cut it? Did you cut it because you could feel it? i could feel it so i trimmed it a bit...i suggested wearing it for a day and if it bothers you all day, then trim it off...but just trim a TINY bit at a time because you can always cut more off :) now that i cut it, i can't feel the stem or IT in me even like i could with tampons! i love it!

  • When you wash it out, do you put it back in wet? Or dry it off?

I prefer wet because it makes it easier to insert.

Do you wash it in the shower?

    Yep!

Do you use Diva Wash? If not, what do you use?

Hot water and handsoap, and boil at the end of the month.  Diva Wash didn't exist when I started using it, and it seems like a gimmick.  I don't like gimmicks, so I won't ever use it.  Wink

    Is it hard to insert?

Yes, sometimes.  Once you get used to a method that works for you it'll be fine.

Does it stretch out your vagina... permanently? lol Or is this not a concern since the opening closes back after it. I know this is a dumb question, but I'm scared!  That thing is big!

    Nope!

Can you feel the stem? Did you cut it? Did you cut it because you could feel it?

I could feel the stem, and I cut it completely off.  I know people say not to and it voids the warranty or whatever.  But I was dedicated and knew I was going to make it work, so I got rid of it.

  • When you wash it out, do you put it back in wet? Or dry it off? I insert it wet.  It's more pliable when it's warm.

Do you wash it in the shower? Yes.  It gets one sink wash and one shower washer per day.

Do you use Diva Wash? If not, what do you use? No.  I just use whatever soap is handy, which is usually hand soap when I'm washing it at the sink, or clarifying shampoo in the shower.

Is it hard to insert? No, but I've been using it for years so I'm an old pro.  :)  However, and this is TMI, but it is sometimes more difficult to get it to pop open and get into the correct position if I need to poop soon.

Does it stretch out your vagina... permanently? lol Or is this not a concern since the opening closes back after it. I know this is a dumb question, but I'm scared!  That thing is big!  It looks big, but I agree with Daisy, it's definitely smaller than a penis.

Can you feel the stem? Did you cut it? Did you cut it because you could feel it?  I can't feel the stem so I didn't bother to trim mine.

  • When you wash it out, do you put it back in wet? Or dry it off?
    Wet works better.

Do you wash it in the shower?
Yes, and another time or two daily.

Do you use Diva Wash? If not, what do you use?
    Hot water only.

    Is it hard to insert?
No, but occasionally i have to readjust it.

Does it stretch out your vagina... permanently? lol Or is this not a concern since the opening closes back after it. I know this is a dumb question, but I'm scared!  That thing is big!
No.  It's a stretchy, flexible muscle.  No concern to be had -- really, it's not very big compared to the two things vaginas are intended to accomodate!

Can you feel the stem? Did you cut it? Did you cut it because you could feel it?
I did cut it, because it's easier to insert without it... i could get it to fit just fine and comfortably/without feeling the stem while the stem was the original length.  However, i can insert it less carefully now that the stem is short (i don't have to position it as carefully and i can still get a comfortable fit).  I don't really even know what it is there for; i can't imagine pulling it out by the stem successfully.

    Okay, a lot of questions....

When you wash it out, do you put it back in wet? Or dry it off? Wet, but sometimes I have issues with inserting if it's too wet. Like it creates weird suction with itself and won't open right. So if I start having issues when I am trying ot insert it, then I dry it off.

Do you wash it in the shower? Sometimes. But I can't put it back in in the shower typically so that's not much of a time saver for me.

Do you use Diva Wash? If not, what do you use?I use just water daily but at the end of my cycle I use anti-bacterial soap and then boiling water (sometimes it takes me a few days to get around to boiling some water, so in the meantime I want it clean)

Is it hard to insert? There is a learning curve. I have never found it hard to insert. But it can be hard to insert correctly so it doesn't leak at first. But once you know what right and wrong feel like, then it will be fine.

Does it stretch out your vagina... permanently? lol Or is this not a concern since the opening closes back after it. I know this is a dumb question, but I'm scared!  That thing is big! Haha, agree with previous poster. It is bigger than a tampon, but not bigger than a man. It won't do any damage.

Can you feel the stem? Did you cut it? Did you cut it because you could feel it?  I cut my stem just a little because occasionally I could feel it. Now I never feel it and there is still plenty of stem left. I would just try it and see how it goes and cut a little at a time until you can't feel it. You may not need to cut it at all.

  • Yeah, but you don't walk around with a man in you 24/7 for 7 days a month! lol

Okay, okay, I know - I guess the opening is the only thing you have to be concerned about, and that only stretches for like a second w/ the diva cup.

  • It's also folded when you insert it, so it's not as big going in. You can't really just jam it in open... that would hurt.
  • When you wash it out, do you put it back in wet? Or dry it off?WET IF I'M IN THE SHOWER, DRY OTHERWISE (WEIRDO!) Do you wash it in the shower? YESDo you use Diva Wash? If not, what do you use? SOAPIs it hard to insert? NO, BUT THERE IS A LEARNING CURVEDoes it stretch out your vagina... permanently? lol Or is this not a concern since the opening closes back after it. I know this is a dumb question, but I'm scared!  That thing is big!  MY VAGINA IS ALREADY STRETCHED :(Can you feel the stem? Did you cut it? Did you cut it because you could feel it?  YES.  I'M STILL ON THE FENCE ABOUT CUTTING IT.
  • When you wash it out, do you put it back in wet? Or dry it off? I dry it off b/c I have a hard time getting a good grip to put it back in when it's wet.  I have a lint-free towel specifically for this purpose.

Do you wash it in the shower? Nope.  I don't like to insert or remove in the shower.  I remove sitting over the toliet, dump it into the toliet, wipe out with TP, wash in the sink, dry, and re-insert.

Do you use Diva Wash? If not, what do you use? No, it's too expensive and I can't get it nearby if I ran out.  I use baby mild unscented Dr. B's

Is it hard to insert? Not at all once you get the hang of it.  Follow the instructions it came with, and make sure it's completely open inside you.  I stick my fingers waaayyy up there and run them around the rim to make it's fully open.  Usually I have to twist the Diva several times before it pops open.

Does it stretch out your vagina... permanently? lol Or is this not a concern since the opening closes back after it. I know this is a dumb question, but I'm scared!  That thing is big! I agree it looks big!  I thought so too.  Once you get the hang of it it's really easy to insert and remove.  I don't feel it at all, it's awesome!  I'm petite at 5'2" and 130 lbs, and I haven't noticed any stretching of my vajayjay.

Can you feel the stem? Did you cut it? Did you cut it because you could feel it? Yes I could feel it.  I wore it for a day or two, cut the stem a little bit, and repeated.  I basically have no stem now.  Only cut a little at a time!  I highly recommend using a sharp knife for the cutting.  When I used scissors the bottom of the shorten stem wasn't even (because the scissors compress the stem into an oval while they're cutting) and I could feel that.  The knife made a nice, straight cut.

  • Thanks for the tip about the knife, because I totally would have gone for my scissors!

I got the one for people under 30 who haven't had kids. I don't have kids, and maybe I'm flattering myself, but although I turn 30 in 4 months, I didn't think I needed the bigger one. lol. I hope I don't leak.

You're welcome!  I had already cut it very carefully twice with scissors and it was uneven, so I was freaking out!  So I tried a sharp kitchen knife instead and voila!  A nice, even cut.

I think the #1 Diva you picked out is the right one.  IMHO, the key to not leaking is (1) during insertion, make sure the cup is parallel to the floor.  Don't inset "up and towards the small of your back" like with a tampon. (2) make sure it's wayy up, not sitting low at the entrance to your vajayjay; and (3) make sure it's completely open inside you.  You fold when you insert it obviously. I know that sounds like alot, but I insert mine in just a few second now, and have no leaks, not even while doing yoga!

  • I put it back in wet.  It's a heck of a lot easier that way.

Yes, I wash it in the shower.

No, I use regular hand soap.

After a learning curve, I don't find it hard to insert at all.

It's not as big as it looks in pictures on the internet.  No, it doesn't permanently stretch your vagina.  In fact, I would gander that it doesn't stretch it at all - it's made of silicone, so it's the pliable piece.

I cut the stem off because I could feel it.  I have had no difficulties in removal.

  • So it sits way up? I thought it was supposed to sit low! Don't get me wrong, I'd prefer to keep it way up there. Down low sounds uncomfortable and risky.

My sister wants to know if she could teach Zumba with one in. There's a whole lotta shakin going on with that.

Maybe it's different for different people?  Mine sits pretty much as high up as it can go, and the end of it (no stem remember) is right at the entrance.  Maybe I have a short-ish vajayjay, but I have no problems, umm.. accomodating my awesome DH.  Wink

I would think so.  I do yoga with it in, which involves a lot of flipping around, and I've never had any problems.
