What can you tell me about Dr. Sanfilippo at Magee?

Since I am VERY unhappy/dissatisfied with my current endo, my OB/GYN recommended I see someone in the REI department of Magee.  They assigned me to Dr. Sanfilippo and I see him (her?) tomorrow morning.  What has your experience with that doctor and practice been?

  • I never saw that doc, but I just wanted to say good luck!! The nurses there were all very nice!!!
  • My regular RE is Dr. Gabriella Gossman at Magee but she is on vacation.  I had Dr. Sanfilippo do my HSG on Monday.  I do not like him.  He gave me the creeps.   That is my .02.

  • Love, love, love him! Honestly, I couldn't say enough about him or the practice. I think they are great. He never rushed me, took as much time as needed for appts and I found him very comforting. Good luck to you!

  • I don't have any experience with Dr. Sanfilippo.  I saw Dr. Mansuria at Magee for Endo / Lap surgery about a year ago.  He was awesome.
  • I only saw him once but I had a good experience.  He had a nice bedside manner.

He is VERY highly regarded and considered a foremost expert in his field.

  • First and foremost, the staff in the office is great! They are who you deal with on a day to day basis.  I worked with Dr. Wakim in the practice but due to scheduling Dr. Sanfillippo did my IVF egg retrieval.  I have no complaints but I don't remember much due to the meds...LOL...DH was positive about him.
  • I've heard nothing but good things about him.  My OB/GYN gave me two REs to choose from, and he was one of the two.  The only reason I didn't choose him was because the second one was a half hour closer to my home.  But I would try him based on what I have heard.  Good Luck!

  • I usually mostly lurk, but I had to chime in.  I was seeing someone else in the practice, but switched to Dr. Sanfilippo recently.  I love him, and can't say enough good things about him!  He's very proactive, and has really jumped my treatment ahead where other doctors wanted to lay back and see where things went and wait it out.  He's very friendly, as well.  He's very well respected and has published a number of articles, especially about endometriosis.  I'm very pleased with the switch.

  • I guess a lot has changed with Dr. SanFilippo over the past few years. I saw him recently and it was the absolute worst experience I've ever had with a physician in my life.
He went on a crazy rant and acted like a complete jerk. Clearly this man has had some life issues and started taking it out on his patients.

He told me that I was too old (35) to have children that wouldn't be damaged and autistic and cited a study that I have read but was smart enough to know that it was poorly done (I'm a scientist as well). He lectured me about junk food and told me that I was a lazy person who was too fat to reproduce. I actually bring my exercise records (recorded by my bodymedia fit) and myfitnesspal as well as my food diaries for the past several months to nearly every doctor's appt. He couldn't be bothered to even glance at any of these before he went on his giant rant about fat people having babies. Funny how of all the autistic kids I know every single one of them came out of a mother that was a size 8 or smaller.

Maybe he's a good doc if you're skinny, but if you are overweight and have endocrine problems such as a malfunctioning thyroid, PCOS, or other issue that causes you to not be pleasing to his eye then go seek help elsewhere.

  • wow that is awful, I hope you reported him to the practice b/c that is uncalled for

  • No one else finds it really weird that someone newbie has come on the board and dug up a post that is over five years old?

  • Yes and no, Kris ;) Yes because it's a super old post it's odd, but I know I was recently looking for a dermatologist recommendation in the area and surprisingly our board came up several times in my searches. So a complete newbie may not realize this is from waaaaaay back and just reply.

Or I'm completely wrong and they're digging it up for giggles ;)

I know that when I have an axe to grind, that's the FIRST thing I do!

  • Yes, I think it's very weird.  I also find it hard to believe that anyone would say that 35 is too old to have a baby.   When I had my son at 35, and told them I wanted a tubal if I ended with a c-section, they kept asking if I was sure because "I was still so young".
  • I don't find it odd that the thread would pull up, just that this person would take the time to create a log in for something that is this old just for sour grapes.
