Besides reading stuff on line, does anybody have any personal experience with the ring?
I've been on the pill before .... but im considering other options. BNOTB! not yet...
Re: Ring or Pill?
Hmmm... Now I have to talk to DH. That's a big deal "if he feels it"
GOSH!!!!!!! WHY Can't guys go on PILLS or RINGS!!!!!!!!!
The Dr. said that it was just my DH being silly, and that you can't feel that, etc, but if you can stick your finger in there to fish it out, I am sure he can feel it. Plus, I have a friend who also used it, and got off it for the same reason.
I agree... we're the ones always having to worry about all this stuff!
I was on the pill for a while. I hated it. It gave me headaches, mood swings, and I didn't like the idea of all those extra hormones.
About a year after we got married, we started practicing Natural Family Planning which involves taking your temp every morning with a basal body thermometer, tracking your cervical mucus and keeping a record of when your peak fertile times are during your cycle in order to avoid conception. It worked beautifully for us. Now we are using the same method to TTC.
I was on nuvaring and then suffered 2 strokes because of the hormones in it. I was the minority, of course, but I was 25, not a smoker, not overweight, and it was the ony hormonal birth control i had been on in years. I was in the hospital for a month (including the icu for a week) and had to do 3 months of physical therapy to regain my ability to walk and do simple tasks like getting dressed (i was paralyzed on the whole right side fo my body.)
just make sure you talk to your dr about the risks, regardless of the birth control you choose.
Wow! this is what im scared of
there are A LOT of law suits right now against nuvaring and other high hormonal bc pills. Like I said, it's a small percentage of people that this stuff happens to, but it does happen. Just make sure you talk to your dr about your risks and do your research. A lot of ob/gyns will get defensive and say that it can't happen, no matter what. Just ask lots of questions, regardless of what you decide on.
I have been on the pill for about 7 years. The first pill I tried was no good, it was a higher estrogen pill. I was very moody and even got depressed. I also had major nausea and headaches.
Since then I have been on Loestrin, which is a lower estrogen pill, and for the first three months I had some side effects (headaches, nausea, and spotting between periods). But those symptoms went away and I feel great on it now and plan on staying on it until we start trying...
I was on the Nuvaring for many years and liked it until suddenly I developed constant yeast infections. it was HORRIBLE!!!! I suffered through it for a long time (like...years) because I cannot take BCP due to an interaction with other medication I have to take for life.
Now dh and I are using NFP. We don't temp, but I have a perfect cycle and I know exactly when I ovulate because I get cramps on day 14 each and every month. We just avoid doing the deed during that week.
I also use VCF strips (Vaginal Contraceptive Film) which is a form of spermicide as an additional method. They used to sell this stuff at Target but I can't find it there anymore. I am going to order some on Amazon soon and stock up!
I feel a lot better being off birth control and since my cycle is VERY regular it works great for me!
My Blog: SIREN.ORG!
it's b/c your cervix is stretched already and easier to insert than someone who hasn't passed 8 lbs through it lol
