All ArmChair doctors please diagnose me.

OK so here are my symptoms. I am on a diabetic diet, so I have almost cut out sweets completely, I allow myself one a week. Because of this I have to seriously cut back on my carb intake.
I am normally a huge veggie lover, but for the past few days, I can't STAND them. Even my favorites are unpalatable. What's wrong with me?

John thinks my iron might be low, a friend thinks I might need more protein. I also take a prenatal vitamin each day. I eat meat one meal a day, sometimes two. GO!

  • you're pregnant, sometimes you have food aversions that are really not relevant to anything.  I couldn't eat Mexican food or chicken when I was pregnant!

Sorry, I'm no doctor.  Maybe someone else has a better reason!

  • I'm going to go way out on a limb here and say pregnancy? ;)

But seriously, I had more aversions than I did cravings. I suddenly hated seafood and loved all red meat, especially hamburgers. Calvin's chicken salad became disgusting to me.

What kind of things are you wanting/eating?

Qdoba nachos, but only THEIR nachos. A good hamburger cooked to a nice medium rare, which of course is a big no no. But honestly my biggest cravings are sweets and bagels, so I'm in quite a pickle.

  • Yep, you will probably get different food aversions throughout. You might love something one day and the next hate it. At least that was my experience!
  • Any particular reason that you cut out all carbs? Does that include fruit? Maybe your body is telling you that it wants or needs some of those things. The veggie thing could be just a coincidence.

As long as there is some nutrition involved, then I say go with what your body wants. Having a whole grain bagel with some cream cheese doesn't sound bad to me.

My biggest cravings were fruit and red meat, so it made sense that i needed vitamins or protein or something. The only one I didn't give into was my cravings for fried food towards the end. I indulged my constant craving for baked goods! I just tried to make sure there was fruit or something else in there so I could feel better about it.

  • I haven't cut them out but I have to cut them back, my goal is one serving per meal, where now I think it's more like 2-3 per and then a snack. That all gets onverted to sugar.
