XP: dh lost his job

We are screwed, I am freaking out, I don't know what will happen next.

It is hard to be supportive when I am so scared. Ugh, he made really good money.......he carried the insurance and his income paid 85% of the bills.

fvck = (

ETA:

He was told to either resign or he wold be fired on Friday. He resigned which I think was really dumb. From what I understand, you can't get unemployment if you quit a job. His boss said he can, he needs to find out a lot today.

He was the manager at Aldi.....so retail management is what he knows. I think they are full of crap, his district manager came in and found dated meat on the sales floor......that is what did it.

We really didn't talk last night, I am no good it situations that freak me out. I need to fix that.

Please continue T&P, I hope he finds something quick!

Re: XP: dh lost his job

  • Oh my goodness!  I am so sorry that your going through this.  You and your family are in my thoughts and hopefully your dh will find another job asap.

To answer your question about your dh being able to collect unemployment after he technically quit his job....he might be able too, then again he might be denied.  Check out this site http://www.labor.state.ny.us/ui/claimantinfo/beforeyouapplyfaq.shtm for further information.  Also, this is a good site/company to seek employment/training from too http://www.rochesterworks.org/.

  • I'm so sorry to hear about that!  T&P to you and your family.

  • I am so sorry, that sucks!  Worst case scenario, you should be able to get health insurance coverage for the baby under Child Health Plus, and may be elegible for the Family Health Plus for you and DH.  ((hugs))

  • I am really sorry. Someone I know was in a similar situation, and if you "resign under duress" you can still collect unemployment.

  • I am SO sorry!  You can get fired for having dated meat on the floor?  I find dated meat all the time at Tops and Wegmans... Just seems like a stupid reason to me!

Ugh that just sucks, I hope he can find something quickly.  Good luck!!!

  • I am SO sorry.  I hope you can find work soon for your DH.  That is a sucky situation and doesn't seem very fair.
  • So sorry!!  I know how you feel.

  • Oh my, I feel so badly for you and your family.  I hope he finds employment soon.
  • I am so sorry to hear this. I know exactly how you feel. My DH lost his job 3 months after we bought our house, it was the scariest thing ever and I had no clue how I was going to do this on my own until he found something else, in the end its 2 years later and boy I won't lie it was a struggle but we are still making it, we may not have a savings but you somehow manage to get all your bills paid, I know you don't believe that now as I didn't either, but it all works out..
  • I am sooo sorry to hear about YH! I wish you tons of luck!

I don't know if this is helpful, but I just saw something in the paper that Kohl's in Victor is opening soon and it is hiring.

  • I'm so sorry to hear this.  Fingers crossed that he can find something soon.

  • I'm so sorry - we've been in the unemployment shoes and it's never fun. I hope he finds something better quickly.
  • ::hugs::  I am so sorry!!  We were in the exact same position twice in 2008.  DH made the vast majority of our take home, and was laid off from Chrysler in Feb. '08, found a job shortly after, but was laid off from that in October '08.  He found a job here in NY in April '09, so it was pretty miserable for a while there, but honestly has turned out so amazingly well.  We were really sad to leave OH, but love it here in so many ways.

I know it's going to be impossible for a while, but please just try to stay calm and know you will get through it.  I had to take on a second job, waitressing, and also cleaned my parent's house for money, and luckily DH got unemployment, so we scraped by.  I have no idea how unemployment works in NY, but in OH there is basically no way to get it if you quit.  PP mentioned quitting 'under duress', so hopefully things are different here, and you'll be ok.  He should definitely file anyway, because it might just be a matter of his company fighting it or not, and if they don't fight it, he'll get approved.

Also, unemployment has been extended - Bush started it, but I'm pretty sure that ran out, and Obama extended it again.

There are many, many programs out there so you can continue things like your health insurance and prescriptions.  We didn't qualify for food stamps, but those things are there for a reason, so look into them and use them if you qualify.  Don't be too 'proud'.  You'll get back on your feet, and it will be ok.  That's what they're there for.  DH was also on some pretty vital prescription meds, and his doctors worked to get him approved for a special program to get them for free... look into things like that if you need certain meds.

You will get through it, I promise.  It sucks, and it's ok to be mad or upset or however you may feel.  But also know that things will be better soon enough.  My husband and I are so close now, from everything we've gone through.  PM me if you need anything, or just need to vent.
