I'm moving from containers to a raised bed this year and am thinking of throwing in some Marigolds and Nasturtiums. My squash plants kept getting destroyed by vine borers and I heard Nasturtiums help keep them away. Anyone else try companion planting and have good results?
Re: Companion Planting
Yes. Last year we interplated marigolds, nasturtium and petunias in the beds. I had the squash planted next to the cucumbers, who died, and the collards. They did fairly well.
This year we're using the method outlined in Great Garden Companions. I haven't gotten around to actual placement, but they'll be in the same bed as Cucumber, Corn, Collards, Kale, Radish, Lettuce, Carrot, Garlic. Potentially in the traditional 3 Sisters mix (squash, corn, beans). In addition, we'll mix in nasturtium, marigold, basil, and annual creeping thyme.
