nice continental breakfast

We are not allowed to use things to keep dishes hot for my daughter?s 10AM  2nd birthday party at a local museum. So I am thinking a nice continental breakfast using some of our good serving dishes. Any suggestions for menu ideas or ways to make it look nicer than donuts and coffee, while still keeping in mind it?s a kids event in the winter?

  • Fresh fruit, cheese, muffins, croissants, pastries (w/butter, jams & jellies). Yogurt, granola. Sliced cold meats (ala European style), juice, coffee, tea and water.

    This.

I would maybe throw in mini-muffins and juice boxes w/ straws for the kids.

Also, I think it'd be easier to buy bottled juice, iced coffees, teas and throw them in a nice cooler or big ice bucket so you don't have to worry about cups, pitchers and pouring/spills.

    GL!

  • All the above sounds great and another thing you may want to check out are the Bagel Rolls (I forget who makes them) but they are rolled bagels with cream cheese in the middle. I was very skeptical at first, bu tried one and they were very tasty! Easy clean-up, too! Good luck!
  • I find that displaying food items (whatever the occassion) at different heights is more attractive than single level.  Do you have any cake platters, or tiered holders?  Also, attractive, inexpensive table linens can be draped over sturdy boxes to make multi-level displays.
  • I would do yogurt with granola and berries, fruit salad, a variety of croisants (plain, fruit filled, chocolate filled), mini-muffins, bagels and spreads.  For the kiddies, have juice boxes and mini bagles.

  • I think all of the above ideas are great. For the kiddies, you could also set up a bunch of bowls with cereal in it and let people use a scoop to select their cereal.  Pick fun things like cinnamon toast crunch, cheerios, fruit loops, apple jacks, golden grahams, etc.
