San Antonio Recs

Hey guys!

My husband's birthday is fast-approaching, and I was thinking about treating him to a couple of nights at a nice hotel on the Riverwalk in San Antonio. He's been really busy lately, working really hard, and I want it to be a romantic, relaxing getaway. What are your favorite hotels/restaurants in the area? Thanks!

Re: San Antonio Recs

  • I love hotel Valencia, it's so chic inside, they also have a very nice bar/lounge that is happening.

My friend just told me about "aloft" by W and she said it was a really good value and very hip and modern.

  • Boudro's is very nice Tex-Mex on the Riverwalk.  They have fantastic margaritas and make guac at your table.  I prefer their lunch menu to dinner menu, though.  My rec is the crabcake salad.

Biga is probably the best food in SA.  Their wine menu was fantastic and their entrees were all amazing.  Plus it has very nice ambiance and secluded tables.

  • Thanks for the ideas! I'm going to check those places out online tonight.
  • For hotel, we normally stay at Omni La Mansion. I really like it!!! :) It is also located at great spot on the Riverwalk.

My favorite restaurant on the Riverwalk is Boudro's! SOOO yummy!! Last time I went, I had the lobster empanadas. You have to try to guacamole! It is the best I have ever had!

We love hanging out at the Tower of America's Bar. It is great to head over at sunset. The drinks and the appetizers are wonderful!

  • I'm from San Antonio and my husband and I had a little getaway down there in November. We stayed at the Hyatt Regency on the Riverwalk, which is almost right across the street from the Alamo. It also has a great little live jazz bar downstairs on the river level. Our room looked out over the Riverwalk (we got to watch the Christmas light parade from our window!)

For food, I've always loved going to Mi Tierra in Market Square (you'll need a car to get there if you're staying on the Riverwalk). We also tried a place called Acenar (within walking distance from the hotel) that had tasty food and awesome drinks, and it's on a quieter part of the Riverwalk so you're less likely to have to wait in line for a table.

  • Another rec for Mi Tierra. It's one of my favorites!

  • Boudro's and Mi Tierra for sure. I lived in San Antonio for 14 years and I still can't get enough of them. Like pp's said, if you go to Boudro's you HAVE to get the tableside guac. You'll die of tastiness.
  • my favorite is hotel valencia and my second favorite is contessa hotel. i LOVE biga on the banks...and it's right by contessa. i also like acenar located right next to valencia.

and have fun at the riverwalk! i love going on mini vacations there.
