verizon cell phone questions

i hate my cell phone. i have the LG envy touch and it is a pile of junk. i hate it and i cant type on it anymore because the touch screen is shot because i send too many texts. i've only had it since july, so we arent up for a contract renewal. but im thinking about buying a phone off of ebay that doesnt have a contract associated with it.

i considered getting a BB when i switched to verizon, but i dont ever use it for email and internet so i didnt want to pay the monthly data fee.

if i buy a used BB, do you think i could get around that or would i need to actually activate the phone through verizon and therefore have to get the data package.

this is the first i've ever had verizon. with at&t when i bought a new phone, all i had to do was switch my SIM card to the new phone and it was immediately activated. but i dont think i have a SIM card in my verizon phone, do i?

if you have verizon what phone make and model do you have?

do you love it or hate it and why?

what do you primarily use it for (email, calls, text, etc)?

Re: verizon cell phone questions

  • we have been verizon people since 2001. My son switched to AT&T this past year and it was a nightmare. The only thing I abhor and hate about verizon is the pricing. They nickle and dime you on EVERYTHING. The reception is great and my BB is wonderful. I do avoid their wallpapers and ringtones by using crackberry.com.. I can get such things for free so verizon at least won't get that money..lol. So why don't we switch? Good question.

  • Regarding getting around the data plan, when I activated my BB, it automatically added the data plan to my plan, so I don't think could get around that.

  • Unfortunately, there is now way around not having a data plan with a BB with Verizon.

  • I also have had the enV Touch since July.  I really love it and have had no problems with it.  I'm sorry you're having issues with your phone.
  • I have a blackberry tour. I think that most of the verizon phones (except internationally capable phones?) don't use sim cards, so you can't just switch yours over.

You might want to call them and verify whether you could just activate the blackberry without the data package. I don't know why you couldn't... it's separate from the rate plan and an additional $30. Honestly though, blackberries are a little bulkier than I would prefer if I wasn't using it for email and the web. Can't you purchase some other verizon model?

  • Verizon will nail you with a data plan if you buy any of their smart phones now. You have to activate it either online or by calling them. They'll get you, I promise. No SIM card, so not an easy switch to a new phone. However, I love Verizon. I've never had a problem and will always get great service wherever I go. AT&T isn't great around here, as my brother found out when he visited over the winter. They just don't have the greatest coverage. That being said, I highly recommend the enV2. It's been the best phone I've had through them. Key pad, too, for all your texting. My friends have great luck with Razors, too. ebay is the way to go in between contracts if you don't like your phone. I've done it once before when I had a key that kept sticking.

  • We have had Verizon for over 8 years. I hate that you have to have a data plan to get a smartphone. I don't need the internet and e-mail, I sit in front of a computer all day long and then have one at home too.

I do like to have the access to some excel sheets, word, outlook contacts, outlook appointments etc.
We each have a Verizon VX6800 and love them. They are touch screen but have never had any problems. I don't think that you can buy them new through Verizon anymore. You might be able to buy them used. We don't have to have a data plan, but get everything else. They are Wifi compatible too, so you can get internet if there is free wifi around.

We don't call Verizon when or if we change phones, we do it online through our account. They would still be able to detect a smart phone that requires a data plan.
