yellow perennials/shrubs

I am going to add some yellow into our landscaping this year to brighten it up a bit. We currently have pinks/purples/whites and greens of course. I'm wondering what some of your favorite yellow perennials/flowering shrubs are? I am zone 4. Thanks for your expertise!

Some of the plants we have now are:

Wine & Roses (Weigela)

Chardonnnay Pearls (Weigela)

Quick Fire Hydrangea

Hostas

Crimson Barberry

Roses - (pink, white)

Tulips (pink)

Rhododendrun (purple)

Peony (pink, white)

Purple Leaf Sandcherry

Salvia

Various evergreen shrubs

Re: yellow perennials/shrubs

  • I'm in WI also.  We grow coreopsis, galliardum, black-eyed susans, phlox  and I used to have some yellow hollyhocks.

Also, perennial bulbs/rhizomes: daffodils, crocus, irises.

  • Happy Returns Daylillies.  They bloom all summer long.

For shade, Golddust aucuba (check the zone, though).

There is a yellow euonymous, as well. Can't think of the name.

  • Oooh.. I didn't realize that iris came in yellow. I'm new to gardening - last summer was my first summer with a yard :)  I have some siberian iris planted that I forgot to mention.
  • Another Wisconsite here.  And I'm also new to gardening.

If you have space for a bush we have 3 forsythia bushes that bloom in early spring.  Our property is a testimate to how easy there are to grow (the previous owners neglected all of the plants for 10 years).  The only downside is that they don't bloom for very long.

I have some woodland poppies on order.  They are a nice little shade plant (it's hard to find yellow flowers for the shade) but again they only bloom in the spring.

I'd say daylillies and/or black eyed susans are you best bet for longer bloom times.

FYI, we have some yellow irises but they are a disapointment because they are very, very pale.  Not sure if it's because they are a certain type or not (we didn't plant them) but they are almost transparent.
