Want to save the planet while drinking beer?

Cool article in the New York Times today:

Drinking beer + recycling + supporting local breweries = win win win! :)

Re: Want to save the planet while drinking beer?

  • Why yes, I do!

    YesYes

I think supporting local wines is also helpful, right?

  • Sweet!

I worked at a brewpub in college that sold their beer in growlers.  They were really popular!

    Oh definitely!

  • My DH is SOOOOO alraedy saving the planet...he'll be thrilled!

Learning to start all over again... Blog
  • We've been huge supporters of local beer and wine for awhile now :-D DH even grows some of his own hops for his home brew.
  • Do I ever!

I think I saw this option at McMenamins last time we were there.  I was excited.  Jeff was not.  It could have had something to do with me wanting to bring home one full of their Ruby (raspberry), though.  Wink

  • Oh I want some! I'll have to check it out around here. Not that I go through that much beer but I love trying different beers.
  • Great advice. I'm pretty sure I can follow it too. Big Smile

  • Ha! I just did a blog post about beer cans vs beer bottles! Now onto beer jugs!!
  • On top of drinking local (which is fricking easy to do in MILWAUKEE!) we save the bottles for our homebrew!

DH has been making his own beer for about 6 or 7 months now.  He and two other friends.  And DH is talking about growing our own hops this year.

    We are geeks.

Growing your own hops = awesome and cool.

Growing your own hops =/= geeky!

  • I've grown hops before - just because, not for beer-making. Its a pretty plant, but fyi I believe its toxic to dogs.

  • DH is in love with his homemade beer kit.  The first batch should be ready this weekend and I'm so upset I can't have any b/c we're TTC. ::Huff::

They are. I've told him if he wants to do this, it has to be outside the fenced-in area.  And that he's the only one responsible for researching how to grow them, care, watering, picking, etc.  I've enough maintaining our veggie garden without trying to produce beer-quality hops as well!
