I need ideas

Sooo, how would you make 3-5K a year?

I know it's not much, but it's about what we need to be able to afford living in WA. It would have to be work from home, and we'll be in an small town in an island.

Any thoughts?

PS. I know DH doesn't  have an offer yet, but we want to figure it out in case he gets it.

Re: I need ideas

  • dog walking?  not sure if you could make 3-5k doing this but I know that dog walkers do pretty well where I live.

  • My aunt makes some money selling Avon with a website.

You could work as a Virtual Assistant.  I think that would be an easy job to find in Seattle.  You handle administrative support work or data entry from home.

You can make upwards of $12 an hour as a phone psychic.  I thought about doing this as a summer job.  You just have to keep people on the line and keep them calling back.

Become a certified (or uncertified) translator and do freelance Spanish-English translation.

Watch someone else's kid along with yours.

    Dog walking.

I could keep going and going...

    This sounds like fun!

  • You could tell them you're not a psychic, but your baby is, and only you can understand him.  This will explain any errant crying in the background.

  • Camp counselor? I loved it every summer I did It!
  • For some reason, this post gives me deja vu.

Honestly, I'd wait until we got there and find something.  There's got to be something you can find - that's not much money and I bet you could make it easy.

  • That's an additional $250 - $420 a month. WA minimum wage seems to be $8.55 an hour. If you worked for 12 hours at a part time job, you'd make $410 a month pre tax.

I have friends who substitute teach for extra money.

Edit: Sorry, missed the work from home part. If you could learn quickbooks, you could do minor accounting work from home. That's one of my plans when we have kids.

  • I too was going to say substitute teaching!  It is GREAT!  You can make quite a bit of money...or not that much depending on how often you want to work.  You could work like a day a week and make almost about $100 per day you work.

That's not from home, and then where would lovebug go?  Also, what about coaching a sport for a HS?

What about...ummm...let me think a little more!

  • I could probably work a day a week since DH has days off on weekdays, but I have no idea of how substitute teaching works...

You girls are great! Keep those ideas coming, I have to go have a baby!

  • I don't know what WA regulations are for subbing.  Some places wants you to be a certified teacher, others don't care.  Could be something worth looking in to.

I like the dog walking idea too.

This website had some cool ideas as well

  • I love the translator, childcare, and dog walking ideas!
  • If your DH has weekends off you can pick up A PT retail job or something.

I work about 21 hours a month (3 saturdays) at the weddign invite shop and make an extra $225 a month. So that could kinda put you in your need to make range.

I also agree with watching other peoples kids. Nothing easier then that.
