I was having a really hard time keeping track of recipes, and had stuff everywhere, then I started putting all my recipes into word processing files on my computer, so I could take my laptop into the kitchen. But that wasn't all that helpful, either.
I found this program called YUM, for the Mac, and it's awesome. It's a pricey $26, but you can try it for I think 15 days, without giving them any info. I originally thought it was free, so I downloaded it, and was a little put off by the 15 day trial before it would stop working. But I added a few recipes to it (and kept the backups) and I really liked it, so FI convinced me to buy it. I can categorize my recipes, tell it what I have in stock, and create shopping lists based on the recipes I choose. And then I can export it to my iPhone- so if I'm out shopping I can see what I need.
It's pretty useless if you don't have a Mac, but you can still email or print your shopping list from your Mac if you don't have an iPhone. I expected this program to be really disappointing (and it was until I played with it), but I really like it and thought I'd share. Their website is creativebe.com/yum
(I'm not sure if we're supposed to post links like this, and I promise I'm not plugging a product- I don't know this company, but I wanted to pass on useful info. If I'm breaking any rules please tell me and I'll take it down right away!!)
