My very own splash park!

I know alot of you will think I am nuts...moreso (lol) but DH and I thought it would be awesome to install a small splash pad in the yard. The yard is large enough to accomodate one, it would be *crazy* fun for the kids when they come over, and I didn't think it would hurt my resale. So, I just got 3 preliminary plans for the pad and I am soooo excited! Next step is to take the plans to the town to make sure the project will meet all of their strict water bylaws. Woop woop! :::hangs head in shame::: I am a dork, of this I am aware.

Re: My very own splash park!

  • yes... very strange.. lol :) is there anything on the internet (pics) for us to get an idea of what you're thinking about? We got quotes for a waterfall in our backyard, but the one that fit our budget was way too small, lol. It would have only been 1 gallon per minute so it would have sounded like someone peeing, not like a waterfall!!!
  • I am trying to picture what a splash pad would look like. The one's that are like a rubber floor and then water shoots up all over the place?
  • It would be a concrete pad. Below is one of the 3 plans they send me for approval (the large paved area surrounding the pad isn't necessary and we likely wouldn't have it in our application).

  • Interesting. I wonder if it would have any impact on your insurance?
  • how big is your yard?? we have a pretty big one but I can't imagine having a splash pad!

Our agent says it has no impact b/c the water drains away we don't have to upgrade our coverage like we would if we had a pool or a structure that holds water. We also aren't required by our town bylaw to install a taller fence, for the same reason. The only issue is whether or not it would/could comply with the town's water usage bylaws. There is an option to install a pump that reciculates a large amount of the water so, if we get denied initially, we may look at that option.

Our yard is about 10,000 sq ft. We have this large side yard which is where we'd put it.

  • Oh cool! are you on a corner lot?

Our lot is 8850 sq ft but our back yard is terraced (basically about 1/2 the backyard is a steep hill), so it's pretty to look at, and the dog runs around up there, but we don't really use it.

I can't wait until spring so I can spend more time outside again :) Although I should really get more stuff done inside before spring :P

Nah, we don't have a corner lot. Ours is a bit of a reverse pie (larger in front, more narrow in the back) and it's completely flat - we *are* on the prairies after all, lol. The lots size is the reason we moved out of town...we couldn't find anything that large in the city (other than buying 2 adjacent lots).

Dear Auntie Mel.  Can I come to summer camp at your house in about 5 years?

    Love Gavin.

  • Dear Gavin,

I would absolutely love to have you come and play! Shall we say August, 2015 then? It's a date.

P.S. Dallas will have a playhouse built by then too!

    Hugs,

    Nestie-Auntie Mel

  • When I was a kid I always wanted a slide from my bedroom into the pool. My parents never did go for it.

This sounds lilke something Dallas would ask for! lol

  • It was to have a hatch in my wall and then loop around the house a few times.
  • Mel, you are the coolest Aunt ever. I thought it was awesome that my Aunt had sugary cereal at her house. A splash pad would have blown my mind.
  • OMg this is so awesome...
