so it's just an aggregator of pets up for adoption? it's just intended to connect you to a specific pet and the organization. is that correct?
so after i find the animal that i want, i have to go to the specific organziation that is offering that pet. is that correct?
btw, i am just asking. dh and i would like to have home ownership and a child before getting (and then getting rid of) a pet.
Re: petfinder
I think both individuals, shelters, and other pet organizations use petfinder.
Find your animal, and use the appropriate contact information. I know the pug rescue has it's own website and cross-references the pugs on petfinder.
p.s. - today I heard of the second pug this week being dumped because people are having babies
It can be used either way.
You can search for all german shepherd puppies in X radius of your home that fit Y criteria.
OR, youi can say "see all adoptable dogs from Local AnimalREscueGroup"
But, yeah, all sorts of rescue groups (and a few posers who are BYBers ) post their animals there.
sorry, back-yard-breeder.
There are some people who breed, pretend to be rescues, and make a profit. It's despicable.
BYB = Backyard breeder.
These people have mixed credibility and are generally frowned upon. We got Jake from a BYB, before I knew any better. In Jake's case, this couple had three male and three female adult pugs they bred for a litter or two of puppies to sell out of their home.
People don't care for them because there are perfectly good dogs out there that need a home and there is no reason to breed at this point in time. (see: all the pugs in our rescue. If you wait long enough, you can get a puppy - but you have to wait).
WTF? I told you you could have Toby while we're here. (Note: I'm not a BYB.)
sorry, wasn't trying to imply all BYBers pose on FB.
just that...if it's a rescue you've never heard of? see if it has it's 501cwhatever. Make sure it's a real nonprofit at least.
stinky, getting a pet into this apt is a $500 fee + $250/month ordeal. that is why we are waiting for home ownership, at the very least.
byb -- interesting. i didn't realize this had a name.
