Intro and Home-made shampoo recs

Hey all! I am so excited I stumbled onto this board. I used the knot, but hadn't really looked at the nest all that much.

Can anyone who has used homemade shampoo reccomend a good recipe? I tried a baking soda/apple cider vinegar recipe a while ago but it made my hair way to dry. Maybe I just had the wrong ratios?

Or does anyone know of a good organic shampoo thats cost equivalent to a shampoo like herbal essence?

I really would like to try this and cut down on the daily exposure to unnecessary chemicals- even though my hubby thinks I'm ridiculous. lol.

Thanks!

  • You might want to ask this question on the Fashion board too. There has been some discussion recently about a cocoa powder and (baking soda?) mix. I have also heard good things about a Treseme dry shampoo.
  • Welcome!  A lot of the girls on here rave about Gudonya (sp?) Too on Etsy.  I haven't tried it but I love love looooove the Kiss My Face Shampoos and Conditioners.  I feel that they're reasonably priced ($7ish) though probably a bit more than Herbal Essence.  I also used to use Giovanni which is around $7 as well.  If you have a Trader Joes, they make a shampoo similar to Giovannis for very reasonably priced ($3ish).  Good luck and enjoy the board, these ladies are great!!!

  • Trader Joe's has some less expensive organic shampoos and conditioners.
  • I recently started using Gudonya Too and love it so far.  It makes my hair really soft and it's the perfect amount of moisture for me.   I've also used Giovanni - I do like it, I just wanted to try something different to mix it up a little.  I'm not sure if they are a lot more than Herbal Essence, though.

  • Thanks for the suggestions! I have a Trader Joes pretty close so I will have to check them out. Also, Gudonya looks pretty good. I had no idea etsy had stuff like this. Thanks again!
