Anyone make mini-greenhouses for seeds?

Last year I did my first garden.  I started with seedling trays that were moved from the kitchen floor (by the vent) to the fireplace ledge about 8745 times.  It was awful, and DH absolutely hated it.

This year he offered to help build something to start the seedlings in outside since we live in the 'burbs west of Denver.  (Zone 5)

I'm thinking of something like this, but probably not as nice since I'm getting glass windows off of Freecycle.

I was thinking of a couple of these eggshell starters for random items too.

Has anyone done something similar?  If so, what worked for you?

Re: Anyone make mini-greenhouses for seeds?

  • If it was by the vent & the fireplace to keep the soil warm, why not just buy a $30 seed heating mat?

I use a seed heating mat plus grow lights.  One day, though, I hope to have a small greenhouse!

  • We really just don't have room for it inside, especially with the baby.  Next year will probably be even worse with a toddler.

  • Intead of the egg shells, I'd do toilet paper rolls of newspaper pots. The egg shells are usually too small, and the paper or cardboard will break down as well.
