We're thinking about having a casual get together at our house with brunch and an egg-cracking competition (tradition in my family).
We're expecting more people than we can seat comfortably at tables. We can't use card tables because then there's not room for the egg-tapping.
Everything I plan on serving requires a fork only. Is it ok to expect people to sit on the sofa and/or stand? I've done this at parties and don't mind at all. I know it's not proper, but it's not worth having a "party" if everyone has to be able to sit - that's not enough people to tap eggs in a full brackets competition.
My question is - if you went to someone's house and had brunch, would you be miffed if you had to sit on the couch or folding chairs while you ate?
Re: Casual brunch seating?
Not at all. I have attended several events like that. Especially if your food doesn't require a knife - folding chairs should be fine.
Sounds like fun!
Happy Easter!
Thanks, I feel a lot better now! We're worried we don't even have enough folding chairs for everyone, but we'll worry about that later.
We are having ham, but I'll try and make sure it's either sandwich-sized portions, or small enough to eat sans knife.

Thinking of doing cosmetic updates to a dated home? These were our costs.
I wouldn't mind sitting on the floor or sofa as long as the food is easy enough to eat.
What's egg tapping?
Egg tapping is a silly tradition my family has. Everyone brings hard-boiled eggs and there's a double-elimination bracket competition where a player taps their egg against another player's until one person's egg breaks on both sides. That person is out, and the "winner" goes on to play the next person.
The winner has to eat the egg to prove it's a real egg. We've had issues where people have brought wooden eggs in the past.
Thanks ladies! I'm trying to plan the room configuration so I can maximize seating and maybe squeeze in one card table to give a little more room.

I'd only be miffed if I had NO seat at all
