where to recycle batteries?

I was told Whole Foods recycles alkaline batteries but I just went there and they told me they no longer take them. Sooooo I have a bag full of them and dont' know where to take them. Any suggestions?

I'm pretty sure Best Buy (do you have them?) recycles them.  Also, for some reason I think I remember seeing it at Home Depot too.

which lists a phone number for current information on recycling drop off locations and recycling guidelines.

I know my city does a "hazardous waste" drop-off twice a year, but we always forget to go, so I have two bags full at home.

Our city recycling will take them, if we have 'em sealed in a zip-top baggie.

Our local library has a drop-off so we take ours there.
