Apple versus Droid

I can't decide if I should get an iPod Touch now, or wait until my Verizon contract is up in 1 1/2 yrs and just go with a Droid phone.

I want it for music and apps...it would be nice to have it all in one on my phone.  The only downside I can see to that is if I don't like the phone or go with another company and then I'm starting from scratch again with apps and music.  An iPhone isn't an option at this time, plus AT&T doesn't work as well in my area as Verizon.

Do you think that the Droid apps are going to surpass the Apple apps in the coming years? What would you do?

Re: Apple versus Droid

  • It might depend on how you store your media now - do you use iTunes?

I think it would be more convenient to have it all on one device (LOVE my iPhone), but I could see that being a hassle if you have to convert everything from iTunes into an application that loads the music onto a Droid.  Also keep in mind that most apps work through WiFi or the phone, so if you're on the iTouch, you'd need to be near WiFi for it to work (not ideal for using apps on-the-go).

I also heard that other carriers may be offering the iPhone later this summer, though I know Apple scrutinized each carrier a lot before choosing AT&T and was concerned about providing a level of service to its customers through a phone company.  I'm not sure what this would mean going to other carriers, but just an FYI that they chose one carrier (versus multiple) based on controlling how their iPhone customers receive service.  HTH!

  • I am a VZW customer, and I still have and love my iPod touch.  I use a BlackBerry Tour for my phone, but I use the iPod for music and videos and some apps.  I think that iTunes is really the gold standard for buying music, and I don't keep any music on my phone.  However, I don't know that I would like the iPhone as my phone...I prefer the full keyboard on my BB, as well as many other features on the BB.

  • Thanks for your input.  I wouldn't want an iPhone as my phone either...I like don't like the virtual qwerty keyboard.  I have an enV Touch now for my phone and it has a flip up keyboard.

I just didn't want to get the iPod and then realize when I get a new phone in a year or so that I could do the same thing or more with my phone.
