laptop hinges

I am reposting this from my local board - hoping some tech savvy chicas can help me out!

Both hinges on my Dell laptop have bit the dust.  It is 4-5 years old and everything else works great.  Is there a way to have them fixed?  Is it worth it?  or should I start looking for a new one...

Thanks for any advice you can give!

Re: laptop hinges

  • No, you probably can't have the hinges "fixed."  You can, however, for minimal cost (~$20), purchase new hinges and replace the old ones.  This tutorial is for a specific Latitude model, but you'll get the idea:

Assuming you are not comfortable doing this and can't sucker a tech savvy friend into disassembling and reassembling your laptop, you can probably find a computer repair store where you live (Dell-authorized warranty repairs places will still repair older computers not under warranty).  No idea how much this sort of thing costs, but I can't imagine it would be more than $60.  Worth it...up to you.  Worst case scenario $100 vs. cost new laptop.

    Hope this helps!
