Re: PCP/TTC Wednesday
My update was on Monday but here's the recap: we're moving ahead now instead of in June. We'll start looking at donors and I'll start prenatals again. Maybe we'll be buying sperm by Christmas.
QOTD: I do think most of us long timers know each other's answers but here you go...
1) What kind of donor? Our final decision is unknown.
2) What are the top qualities you are looking for in your donor? Portuguese, advanced education and any other quality that might be used to describe K.
Maybe I don't have a heightened sense of smell, but I've never smelled any vagina on my pants. -- TSD
Bloggity Blog - You know you want to...
QOTD:
1) unknown, ID consent is not important but if our first choice has it, we'll consider it a bonus
2) Red hair and reasonably good family health...thats about it. Advanced degree, appreciation for the arts, and outdoorsy would all be bonuses, but i'm a firm believer in nurture over nature so I dont put a lot of stock in the personality profiles.

1) What kind of donor? Known; unknown; ID consent; other...?we are going with unknown and if they have id consent it will be a bonus
2) What are the top qualities you are looking for in your donor?we are looking for blond blue eyes (to match s) but not a deal breaker, height since i am such a shrimp and athletic ability (to match s and counter act my lacking skills) I am also partial to emts and fire fighters but I am not sure why
QOTD: Swimmers! (have we done this yet?)
1) What kind of donor? Known; unknown; ID consent; other...? We used a known donor. We considered two.
If the known thing had not worked out we wanted to use an ID consent.
2) What are the top qualities you are looking for in your donor? Our criteria with our known donor possibilities was that they were both spectacular humans. Compassionate, warm, fun and smart. We adore both of them. The first decided against it b/c his mother and sister did not like the idea. The second has been an awesome donor. He has considered every aspect thoughtfully throughout the process and we have become much closer to him as a result.
With unknown, We were most concerned with the family health history not having much cancer, since we both have cancer histories in our families. Also, I was hoping for someone Jewish and intelligent and artsy. W wanted athletic and intelligent.
If you had asked me yesterday I would have said this cycle was a bust.... but today is looking a little more positive. Hopefully I will have an update later this week. In the mean time if you can spare us any extra good luck we would very much appreciate it.
1. We used an anonymous donor. We debated a lot on it and decided that is was the best choice for us.
2. Our donor is mostly Irish ( Carol is 100% irish) with her coloring. We looked a lot at health history, and the thing that really made us love our donor was that he had a sense of humor in his donor essays.

Coming late to the party, since I started the post but then didn't have time to come back and respond to it myself...
Our only PCP/TTC news is that Janet's post earlier this week got me thinking about finding a donor, and so of course I had to go looking. At dinner that night we were chatting and I told Sylvia that I found a donor I think she should take a look at, and she said "well, did you buy any already? what are you waiting for?" So cute. I love my wife.
QOTD:
1) What kind of donor?
We definitely want an unknown donor. We're still thinking about the ID consent thing. S is not really comfortable with the idea that our kid could go find his bio father and develop a relationship with him and/or with his other kids.
2) Top qualities?
Phenotypically, our goal is believability. Basically, we want for either of us to be able to pick the kid up at school without getting strange looks from the other parents.
I had initially thought that that meant we would look for a donor with S's background (she's half black, half Hispanic). That is apparently a pretty impossible combo to find, though. Also-- and perhaps more importantly-- S is concerned that our kid wouldn't be "black enough" (her phrase) if the donor was mixed (I am white). So now we're looking for a black donor. Other than that, intelligence is high on the list (I suppose we'll use advanced degrees as a proxy for intelligence).
