Looking for water filter pitcher or

one for a faucet.  I have well water and it is terrible. I am looking for a good filter for a pitcher or faucet.

Thanks.

Re: Looking for water filter pitcher or

  • I use Brita filters - have for years!  They work great and last a long time.  I don't go by the recommended "change your filter" time, I can tell by the taste when it needs a change.  I have a pitcher for the fridge but that's just 'cause I like my water cold!

  • I have the pur filter and like it.  If your water is really bad, you may want to consider a reverse osmosis or in line filter just for your sick to get good drinking water.  If you know someone who could install them for you, they are really inexpensive.  If you have to hire a plumber or company, it's more money, but probably worth it especially if you are buying bottled water or are concerned that there are harmful things in your water.

We had manganese in our water and opted to get a filtration system and water softener to put prior to TTC since the pitchers and faucet mounts won't take that out or won't take enough out to matter based on how much we had.

    Good luck!

I agree, the type of treatment you'll need depends on what is making your water "bad".

I use Pur and Brita, but all I need to remove is the chlorine taste.  If your water is hard, you may want to consider a water softener for the whole house.

My parents have well water with iron and sulfide problems, and ended up getting a reverse osmosis system to take out the metals.  It has helped tremendously.  While it was expensive, they were comparing their costs to all those years of buying bottled water.

If you have bacteria problems, it can help to shock the well (with chlorine) regularly, or you can get a UV light.

  • I am fascinated by the Zero filters.  Since I don't drink water for the nutrients, (hoping that I am getting them from other places), I like the idea of water that tastes good...or doesn't really taste.  We have a filtration system for our house, and a ceramic filter for drinking water, and our water is fairly taste-free, so I have no reason to try the Zero.

I really don't like Britta water, but all of the places that I have tasted it are places that had nasty tasting water to begin with.  Different cities/states...new filters/not newly changed.  I thought they all tasted awful.

  • we have a pur faucet mount filter and really like it.  i love that you can switch it on and off and not have to use the filter all the time (like when we are rinsing dishes, etc.) i fill a glass carafe with it and store in the fridge for cold drinking water.
