Sushi?

My birthday is Thursday and I'd really like to go somewhere great for sushi. We usually go to Minado in Natick and its good but just not the best atmosphere for a romantic birthday dinner. Any suggestions, I dont mind a drive. Thanks

Well, there's nowhere to go but up from Minado's IMO so you're in luck!

DH and I like Daikanyama in Lexington.  For really upscale (re: $$$$$) there's O Ya in Boston; I haven't tried it yet but DH and I are going in a few weeks and I've heard great things (check out the Yelp reviews).

I really like Fugakyu.  I have been to the Brookline and Sudbury locations and they're both good.

I really love Misono in West Roxbury near VFW Parkway, although we usually go for lunch and get sushi and bento boxes (they don't do boxes for dinner though). 

 I've heard great things about Fugakyu in Brookline nearby there are some great dessert options as well Finale and Paris (which has delicous crepes)

I usually like to send guests to Oishii in the South End of Boston. It's a sushi/fusion restaurant. Couples really like it for special occasions and it's not too expensive for the quality that you get. And the South End is a great place to go out for after dinner drinks and music too (Beehive, Wally's Cafe).

I love Symphony Sushi in Boston.  It is reasonably priced and really good (located in between Northeastern and Symphony Hall).

It's maybe too far, but Yama Zakura in Northborough is really good. I went there for lunch last week, and it's really cute. I'm told it gets crowded at night, so even though you have to make a reservation, you might have to wait.

Baba Sushi in Worcester is also really good, but I know from experience it's crazy on Friday evenings (I hear it's busy all through the week, too).?

This is right near my office - I need to give it a try for lunch sometime!  Not too far from here (on Newbury St.) I love to go to Snappy Sushi - it's is all brown rice, very well priced, and I've never been disappointed there.  I probably wouldn't put it in the category of "romantic" though, it is all counter seating.

I have never been myself, but have heard great things from a lot of people about Fugakyu in Brookline.

Apparently I'm the only person who wasn't impressed with Fugakyu.  We went to the one in Brookline and the sushi was OK but overpriced and DH's roll that was supposed to have jalapeno peppers in it came with bell peppers instead and they said it wasn't a mistake.  When the menu says spicy peppers and you actually use bell peppers that's a mistake.
