Need some restaurant recs!

My "Little Sister" is very interested in different cultures and trying new foods.

Know of any restaurants, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, etc., where the atmosphere is pretty "authentic" looking??  She likes the idea of going to a Japanese restaurant and sitting on the floor...  so I'm looking for places like this to take her.

Thanks ladies!!

Re: Need some restaurant recs!

  • This is our favorite Thai place.  I believe they imported all of their decorations, and some are pretty amazing.

And my A&P ladies and I are going to go try this Peruvian place at the end of the quarter.  It sounds wonderful, but I don't know if it's authentic looking or not.  Novo Andina in the Pearl.

And I don't think it's authentic looking but the food is pretty awesome, and it's an unique dining experience because it's essentially a buffet of meat that is brought to your table on large metal skewers that the servers will cut off a serving from:  The Brazil Grill.  The food was different than the one that we loved in Boston, which was mostly seasoned with some fresh herbs, sea salt, and pepper.  A lot of the foods at TBG were marinated.  So maybe there's another place that prepares food that way?  Either way, it's good!

  • Marrakesh

Then there's Tambayan, a Filipino joint.  Haven't really tried any other Filipino places here, but definitely resembles lots of smaller hole-in-the-wall places in the Philippines (plus there's the Filipino tv channel playing on tv 24/7 hahaha).

  • I would definitely second Marrakesh. You get to sit on big pillows on the floor and they wash your hands with rose water and you eat with your hands. It's really good.

I love Andina too but I don't think it's really authentic. Very tasty though!

We have been to The Brazil Grill as well and really enjoyed the food. Again, no idea how authentic that is though.

  • I second Tambayan. One of my Filipino friends goes there with her family on the weekends and says it is very authentic as far as food and atmosphere go.
