Hello Ladies - First I would like to say hi.. I used to be on theknot all of the time but once we were marrired work became insane and it is just beginning to return to normal. My wedding dress is still hanging in our apartment and now that I have the time I decided I should get it cleaned. Where do you recommend? My dress is not that complex but it is Silk Organza with delicate beading so I want to make sure it is returned to me in one piece. TIA.
Re: Wedding Dress Cleaning
I used WedClean because I heard good reviews and it was cost-effective (~$200 if I recall correctly). They mail you a box, you pack your dress, send it to them, they clean it and send it back.
My dress was dutchess satin with silk appliques and everything came back beautifully, wrapped in acid-free paper and its own storage box. They got out all the black dirt marks from walking around Battery Park after a thunderstorm. I would recommend them.
I have also heard good things about Madame Paulette and J. Sheer although I do not have any personal experience. I do believe they are local so you can visit their store. GL!

I also used Wedclean also.
I initially brought my dress to Madame Paulette for an estimate. They told me $800 even though it had no lace or beading and no obvious stains (except some dirt on the bottom.) When I told them that I would take it some else and that I wanted to pick my dress up, they told me that they couldn't find it. I asked if I could go to the warehouse to look for it, and they said know. I asked if I could send them a picture of it to help them look for it, and they said no. They then offered me $400 or $500 to reimburse me, and when I told them that it was worth much more than that, they said no, it's used, so it's not. I argued that if it wasn't worth more than that why would they try to charge me $800 to clean it, they said that they know some people will pay that much because of emotional attachment. Anyway, after I threatened to sue them, they suddenly found my dress, but it had been lost for over a month. So, I would highly recommend not using Madame Paulette.
