BR: Crib Bedding Poll

I've been debating on what to do/get for the bedding set/decor for the nursery. Originally, it was between a Winnie the Pooh and a Pottery Barn Kids set. I just realized today that the Winnie the Pooh one is only in stock in Canada. So I don't think it's an option now, especially since it was going to be the most expensive option in the the first place ($229).

So now, it's between the PBK and another design. The only thing about the PBK one is that it's discontinued so I would have to buy the pieces separately from eBay or Craigslist. I also just found out that ppl are selling this for MORE than PBK did, so that means I'm paying more for it than I would've if I just got it from PBK when it was in stock or if I just got another design from PBK.

(1) PBK - I love the design, it matches our birth announcements, and I've heard nothing but great things about their quality. Total (fitted sheet, comforter, lamp shade, crib skirt, fabric to make window valence or sham): ~$186 (I can save $30 by not getting the fitted sheet)

(2) Seahorses - I like this one because I also love the design and it's cheap. Entire set (crib sheet, comforter, bumper, crib skirt, 2 window valences, diaper stacker, toy bag, sham): $80

Either way, I'll be getting more fitted sheets. Also, I don't know what a diaper stacker is really used for and if it's really useful/makes your life easier?

Re: BR: Crib Bedding Poll

  • I like the seahorse one better. I love the colors and the pattern and the price is right. I'm not a mom so I can't speak from experience, but I wouldn't think it's necessary to spend a ton on bedding. I mean they couldn't care less anyway, right?

  • I voted for PBK based purely on looks, not price. I'm just not a fan of marine themes (fish, seahorses, seashells, whatever) - so while I think the seahorses are cute, they're just so not my style that I have to vote for PBK. I know it's really weird, but does that make sense? It's probably not helpful at all lol. I do like that shade of blue though.

As a side note, if you're not 100% on either of these sets (you seem a little uncertain), have you looked online at Walmart? I know a lot of people don't like shopping there, but they do have really good prices on a lot of brands (including some that I've seen higher priced elsewhere online). I'm assuming you've already checked out Target, babysupermall.com, JC Penny, Amazon, etc. Smile

P.S. Since even though I've picked our bedding, I'm totally incapable of not looking at others, look how cute this is! And this! The second one almost makes me wish we were doing a space theme. Smile

  • I really like the PBK bedding and voted for that, but since you said it's going for more than retail, I'd probably continue to look for something else.
  • I prefer the PBK but if you're not 100% sure, I'd say keep looking. You can find all kinds of custom made stuff on esty with tons of different fabric patterns. I searched for a while to find bedding that I LOVED that was also reasonably priced.

  • I think they are both cute, but neither to die for.  If you aren't 100% sure, I would keep looking (especially since the PBK ones are so pricey!)

  • As for option #1, it's pretty cute but... Why would you not get the fitted sheet? It's the one thing that you really NEED. Of course $30 is an insane amount for that IMO. You can't even use the comforter so it's a big waste of money. Does this price include shipping from all the different places that it's coming from?

I like option #2 better (I'm the opposite of Lisa- I love anythling to do with animals or the ocean). I also like it because it's better priced.

I don't understand why they sell bedding sets for so much money and we can't even use the comforter or the bumper? I washed and put our bedding set up yesterday. Until the baby comes we're using the bumper & comforter for looks but it will be put away when LO gets here. BTW- I got our set brand new at a yard sale for $30! That included 3 sheets, bed skirt, bumper, comforter and mobile. It's even the jungle theme that we wanted! The mobile itself is worth $32. Unless $ is not an issue for you guys, keep looking for something more economical and that you are not going to second guess yourself on when it gets here :-)

Oops, I didn't mean to say that I wouldn't get any fitted sheets, but maybe just not from the PBK set if I go with that design. Cuz no matter which set I go for, I need to get multiple cribs sheets and there are some highly-reviewed ones from Amazon in solid colors that I think could go with any set for $10-$12 so to save $, I may get those instead of the one from the set for $30, esp if it may need to replaced often from getting dirty, etc.

Question: I thought the comforter can be used when they're older? Or never?

BTW, I can't believe you got a new set for $30!! That's an amazing deal!

Oooo, the space one IS cute =) I did check out Target and Amazon, but not the other places...even though there are lots of cute ones out there, only a few really jumped out at me (I think I drift towards "simpler" designs and colors? So that it'll be easier to match other stuff with it? And I want something that could be used for a girl later if we may ever have a girl too). And then there's the whole price vs. how badly I want it scale. I'll check the other sites later tonight when I'm at home =) Thanks for the suggestions!

  • I like the seahorse design, but that's because it looks similar to the bedding set that I got for Elyse.  It's the purple dragonfly set here.  We got a really good deal on e-bay ($45 for the set).

I'm using the bed skirt, valance and quilt (to hang on the side of the crib and use when E is older).  I'm not going to use the diaper holder (because I have an organizer for our dresser) or the bumber pads.  I'm using the cute little pillow on the glider!

I believe they can be used from 12 months...but someone correct me if I'm wrong. Smile
