Are these real? Contractions...

I have been feeling tightness and waves of pain (pretty tolerable) in the bottom-to-mid of my belly, yet still painful. They started at 11:00 pm-ish and went from 15min to now 7min apart.

I'm waiting for the MAJOR pains or for them to at least get stronger BUT again they're pretty tolerable...are they real?

I've tried sleeping but I can't [of course] drank water and took a bath...still getting them......at what point should I call into the hospital? I'd feel like such a fool if I go in and they send me home for a 'false alarm'.

Re: Are these real? Contractions...

  • Obviously I have no clue...I only just figured out that I've been having Braxton Hicks for weeks. But oooh I'm getting excited for you!

Can't hurt to at least phone in and see what they say!!!

  • They def. could be. Everybody feels them differently as people all experience pain differently. They may start to get stronger, they may not.

As for going in for a false alarm. Oh well. Better safe than sorry. It happens all the time. It's not like they'll be mad at you. Follow your instincts.

    Good luck!

  • They could be contractions. Like pp said everyone deals with pain differently. I was in early stages of labour and I didn't think I was. Hopefully that is it :) Yay can't wait.

  • I am guessing you're off to the hospital!! Looking forward to hear about Mia's arrival :)
  • oooh this is exciting!!!  I have no idea if they are contractions but they could be.  I mean I only ever had false labour.  I hope you are at teh hospital now and not reading this!

  • Oooh!!!  keep us posted!  Mia may be on her way!
  • my contractions were tolerable for hours and I went to the hospital like 4-5 hours into them.

Always head to the hospital, it's better to be safe than sorry=)  Best of luck!

  • I think you should or are at least already at the hospital.  It is always better to be safe then sorry.  Mine never did get any stronger but were really low and for about 5 hours before I went in, I ended up being 4cm dialated already so it was baby arrival time, best of luck keep us posted, this is exciting.

  • My contractions didn't even feel remotely close to what I had read about/heard about from friends. By the time I got to the hospital, I was 4cm and had DD 4 hours later. I think it's better to be safe than sorry.
  • I don't know if there's any way to tell for sure- everyone experiences labour pain differently. I remember when I was in labour I wasn't sure either. I Googled what contractions were supposed to feel like and mine felt nothing like that (mine felt like my bladder was going to explode. It wasn't a tightening feeling, it was an expanding feeling, and I felt that it was coming from my bladder). It took me a long time to accept that this was the real thing.

At 10 days overdue, it's definitely a possibility (I was also 10 days over...).

I went to the hospital when mine were about two minutes apart, which didn't take long- it took about four hours to get to that point. I went into labour at 8:00 am, went to the hospital at noon, started pushing at 9:00 pm, and he was born via emergency c-section at 12:11 am. I've heard that you're "supposed" to go to the hospital when they're consistently five minutes apart, but mine were never really five minutes apart- they went from 10 minutes to two minutes with not much in between.

Remember, too, that even if this is the real thing, early labour can last for days (and hopefully it won't last that long for you!). I wouldn't go to the hospital until you feel that you can't handle it at home anymore- you'll know when that is.

    Good luck!

ETA: I didn't even notice that you posted this last night... I imagine by now you know for sure :) Good luck!
