Any irrational ones? Or just stupid stuff?
Me? I don't sleep with the closet door open.
When I was little, I saw a movie where an evil clown came out of a closet and stabbed a little girl (who was just about my age at the time). Somehow, in my head, if you keep the door closed, the evil clown stays in. And the door can be open if I'm not sleeping, day or night.
It drove my Dad nuts, because he insisted I needed airflow through the closet. DH just laughs.
Re: s/o - fears
Irrational fear? The shower drain. I don't like to stand on it, whether at home or when traveling. Bathtub drains are fine, it's the drain in the center of a shower stall that's a problem.
No idea where this came from.
I have this thing with checking to make sure my front door is locked when I travel. I will worry the entire time I'm gone if I don't do my two step process.
I've even called my sis to check my door for me. I'm much better, but it's strange.
Bridges. When I was a kid my dad swerved into another lane on a bridge and I thought it was because there was a hole in the road and OMG we almost fell through. Then I had an uncle who went off a bridge in a car. Heights bother me too so this feeds right in.
Confession: I've never driven over a bridge because of this fear. I've only been a passenger. One of these days I really need to do it. But, between public transit and family, there's been no rush.
I'm still a little afraid of the dark. I *hate* going out into the main area of the house when all the lights are off. I will usually turn a light on, but we leave the kiddo's door open and I don't want to wake him up...So sometimes I will leave the lights off, but I move really quickly. Silly, I know.
We have one light that's attached to the switch right next to our bedroom door, so if I am going to bed for the night and that light is not on, I will turn it on before I go into the bedroom and then a bedroom light must be on before I turn off the light in the living room so that it's never dark.
If DH is not home, which is rare, I usually leave a living room light on and I will fall asleep with the TV on and set the timer for it to turn off.
Bridges that are over water (especially the bay bridge in San Francisco. I'm old enough to remember when it fell and I'm terrified of it now)
The dark.
Spiders, but for some reason especially Daddy long legs. All those spindly little legs, yick!
I hate clowns too. I have ever since childhood.
Me too, O. Also? I read a book as a kid where there was another world on the other side of the mirror. I had dreams for YEARS that some girl who looked like me was crawling out of the mirror to take over my life. YEARS.
Also from that book? I'm a little creeped out by cement in a basement. Not outside, just in a basement.
You still couldn't pay me to actually say it, even though I logically know better...I also know I wouldn't sleep for weeks.

I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929
I also cannot sleep with any closet doors open. I don't even have a reason I can pinpoint, other than a childhood fear that monsters lived in the closet and would eat me if the door wasn't closed.
My fear of spiders is also completely irrational. They are, overall, very useful creatures. But they terrify me.
These fears were somewhat combined when I woke up one morning with a big, ugly-looking spider bite. I'm convinced the spider must have come from the closet.
Unfortunately, I am not a candidate for Lasik because of the severity of my eyesight. They have an alternative now that is similar to them implanting a contact lens on your eye, but since I am so young and my eyesight is still gradually decreasing, there's no point in spending that much money on something that will only last a couple of years.
::raising hand:: That was me. I'm having it done next week and if I think about it too much, I get nauseous.
I have a fear of people close to me dying. I'm not sure if it's because i've had an unusual amount of people my age/younger/older die that were close to me or what.
I get that...feeling though. Sometimes it's not the right person that i'm thinking of, but usually I end up hearing of a passing.
Not like in a freaky I see dead people way lol.
Sort of like the day that I found out my 17 y/o cousin died in a car accident. It was a Sunday and I woke up a little after 6am and just cried softly. I didn't know exactly why. I cleaned all day and accidently washed my cell phone in my clothes. (Awesome.) Anyway, that afternoon one of my sisters got a hold of me and let me know she had passed.
It was really eery..
Did they prescribe you Valium or anything? They gave it to me and I took several. I was so pumped about it that I barely felt a thing.
During the procedure they numb it so you can't feel anything. You can, however, feel a lot of pressure. Remember that that is good, because it means the eye is supported properly during it. It lasts under a minute each.
Try to go to sleep (with eye goggles on) as soon as you get home. You can sleep through the part where your eyes are slightly irritated from the procedure. The eyedrops help that also.
I would do it again if I had to go back and make the choice! HTH you not be nervous! Sorry that got long
They are giving me a Xanax when I get there. Medical stuff usually doesn't bother me one bit, but the idea of them touching my eyes has been pretty freaked out. I have Xanax at home, I may take a half dose before I go in.
DH had it done years ago and said I'll be fine. I'm sure I will be, I just need to pretend it's not happening! Thanks for the pep talk!
I'd take it at home just for good measure
I think the terror of eyedrops is pretty irrational.
But it's a logical extention of my other 2...fear of water. Fear of things in eyes. Logical extension? fear of water in eyes.
