Goodyear area ladies?

Is anyone from this area or know anything about this area??  There's a hospital out there I've checked out a lil & they have open positions that will work for me, but wondered if I can get any info about living near there or working in that area.  TIA

  • Mrs.DWeb lives out there and it's beautiful!

If you're going to have a job out there, I say go for it. You can get a great house for cheap too!

If you live there but don't work there...I, personally, think it's too far but that's just for me! It may not be for you depending on where you work.

I agree, if you are going to be working there then i think it is a good choice, even the surrounding area's i hear are pretty nice.  From what i hear you can get a lot of house for a little bit of money :)  God Luck and welcome to the PHX board! :)

  • Goodyear has a ton of beautiful houses and is a really nice area. The traffic gets really bad on the 10 during rush hour though, so if your hub is working somewhere else he will likely have to take the 10 and be stuck in crappy traffic. Which hospital? Banner Estrella? My ob delivers there. I haven't been into the actual hospital (just his office across the lot from it) but I've heard nothing but good things about it

  • Thanks for the help & welcome again ladies.  I can't wait to be a "real" phoenix nestie, Stick out tongue  I'm just looking at diff. hospitals around to see what positions are open that could potentially work for me.  This one is the West Valley Hospital, not Banner, though I've heard a lot of good things about the Banner system.  It looks like West Valley is a fairly small hospital?  Thanks for the heads up as far as the traffic goes.  He works carpentry/construction, so he'd always end up in diff. areas.

  • I've lived her for 24 years and have never heard of it, so I'd say it's small! lol. Yeah if you have no reason to actually live out in Goodyear, I'd avoid it. It's pretty far west and doing anything else but being in that area will be a drive for you. But again it depends on where you're working and everything.

If you do end up working out that way, I'd actually recommend living somewhere a little more centrally located because of your DH. Traffic from the west valley in the am is west to east in the morning and east to west at night...so you'd be going the opposite way and avoid the traffic to work for the most part. Depending on where hub is working he might be in for a very long haul some days from goodyear. Sorry if I'm rambling or if this makes no sense. I just woke up and maybe will re-read later lol.

  • It's w/the Abrazo Health System, if that helps.  Maybe the whole system is fairly small though, I dunno.  Well thanks, that's good to know & yes, you made sense.  Mapquest said it's only about 25 mins from Phoenix, but of course, that doesn't consider traffic.  I'm ok w/having about a 1/2 hr drive to work & DH is ok w/up to about an hr, but it'd be great if we didn't have to have that.  We'll have to keep looking & keep all the options open.

  • For what its worth, and maybe I'm spoiled working for Mayo, I would NOT work at either Banner Estrella or West Valley Hospital.  I was a nurse extern at Banner Estrella before I graduated (I grew up in the west valley) and that one short summer was enough to convince me to look elsewhere for a job, even though I basically was already offered a position after I graduated.  The nurses were harsh, unmotivated, and didn't seem to like their jobs.  They actually bickered over who had to orient me, in front of my face!  West Valley Hospital, I don't have any personal experience other than we occasionally get patients who they can't handle so they sent to us, and usually they arrive in terrible shape.  The people who have been there say they'd never go back.  Anyways, sorry this ended up a lot longer than I intended it to!
  • That's ok, thanks, I appreciate any info I can get since I don't know any of the health systems out there.  That's what really makes me nervous about moving 32 hrs away to an area that I'm not real familiar with yet.  Around here, I know which places to stay away from.  Wow, that's incredibly rude that they'd bicker over you right in front of your face.
