Seed Exchange Party?

I want to host a seed exchange party the first weekend in March (too early?), but am not sure how the actual seed exchange part works.

I think everyone brings packets of seeds to exchange (that is the stupidest sentance ever, given the title of this thread). But does each guest give away entire packets of seeds? Or divide up packets into smaller quantities in little baggies, and write out instructions on index cards and staple them together to excange?

I'm planning on sending an invite, with a little explanation of how the exchange works, and the supplies they'll need (little baggies, index cards, etc.), but want to make sure I know what the heck I'm doing!

Has anyone else done this?

Re: Seed Exchange Party?

  • I'm considering a seed planting party.  In my head, everyone brings 2 or 3 different seed packets, and we all go home with 10 - 15 different kinds of planted seeds to nurture.

I'll be checking in here for more suggestions.

The bolded part.  Or you can give away whole packets but if you go the bolded route, then you get more varieties.

You could have people pre-separate their seeds & write out growing instructions (and common & botanic name) ahead of time on labels & affix on packets.

I would totally attend a party like this. Too bad I don't have enough gardening friends in my area to pull this off. I'd have to drive back to my hometown if I wanted to do something like that.

  • another suggestion I went to one where whoever brought the "most unique" plant seeds got a little prize.. it was like a pair of gardening gloves or water can or something cute. Just a suggestion.
