what meat bands do you buy?

I don't buy organic typically it is too expensive but I buy Laura's Lean Beaf and Miller's chicken. Laura's Lean Beef is grass fed and Miller's chicken is antibotic free. I looked at their website and I didn't get any other information. Does anyone have another website to recommend?

Re: what meat bands do you buy?

  • I've never heard of those; we have recently transitioned to getting our meat from our co-op and another local-sourcing butcher... once the remaining package of Jennie-O ground turkey is gone, we will go on a stock-up trip there!

  • If you're in CA - Our store bought beef is Eel River, otherwise we get our red meat (lamb and beef) from a vendor at our weekly farmers' markets.

I stopped buying Niman Ranch after I found out the founder was boycotting his own company.   Apparently, the BOD was violating the original principles of the company and several cows died while being transported due to the inhumane conditions in-transit.

  • I wouldn't really say I usually buy meat that has a brand.

I buy mostly wild salmon or sustainable shrimp. I sometimes buy Eel River or Thundering Hooves beef. Occassionally I buy poultry but it varies on what's available, but I do buy organic/free range/etc at the highest 'humane' and sustainability level I can find.

  • We buy meat from local farmers at the farmer's market or co-op so I guess we don't really buy a brand either.

I'm not sure if this is what you had in mind for website suggestions but http://www.localharvest.org/ might be a good place to start for other options in your area.

  • We get it from our farm where we have a herdshare or Byron Center Meats which is a local wholesale butcher.
  • I buy the organic Smart Chicken, and I buy grass-fed beef from the natural food store or the farmers market (both are local sources).

If I had a large freezer, I'd be buying both in bulk from a farmer (but we live in an apartment, so that's not an option for us right now).

  • We rarely eat meat anymore. A friend hunts and he gives us venison, so that is what we have when we want it. We also have a local poultry & pig farm we buy from occasionally and we eat wild salmon.

I just bought some Niman Ranch bacon. I knew the original owner sold the brand, but I didn't know it was bad.Sad I bought in a moment of weakness since bacon is one of the things I miss the most about not eating much meat.

  • I buy Miller chicken as well. I can't find any other sources of chicken breasts - our co op only sells whole fryer chickens, and that is heave worthy for me (I don't know, I can't handle a whole chicken for some reason). Whole Foods is not a convenient stop for us and too expensive for our budget at the moment.

I buy beef and pork at the co op and farmer's market. Local and organic.

  • I get my beef from organic dairy farmers (my parents). I started buying the Gerber brand of chicken, I think it is only available in the Midwest. I haven't been able to find organic around here. I did find some free range though via localharvest.com. Hope to check that out soon.
