What ketchup do you use?

I admit to being a bit of a ketchup junkie...but I'm trying to cut as much HFCS and GMO from our diets as possible (as well as sugar). What brand do you use? And no...I'm not going to make my own (although I might be brave enough to try it this summer if my first attempt at tomatoes is successful).

Well, the TJ's definitely tastes different. We also have Heinz Organic in our fridge, and that is pretty good as well - DH prefers it.

I use it in and on meatloaf. The occasional fried egg sandwich. And the once a year I cook sloppy joes. Yeah, pretty much a dead animal accompaniment. Wink So I can completely see why you don't see it as necessary!

    We do mayo on fries.

  • Trader Joes organic. I've yet to see a conventional w/o HFCS

We use it on tator tots & fries, and DH likes it on his eggs & sometimes in his soup.

  • Another Trader Joe's user.
  • I get whichever is on sale.  They taste the same as normal ketchup to me.

I won't eat eggs without ketchup, also on burgers, meatloaf, fries, steak sandwiches, etc.

  • Annies or Sunflower market organic...I think--I'm not sure. I just try to get the kind w/o a lot of ingredients in it..including HFCS--it doesn't go well with my cokes at dinner.
  • Our only option here is Heinz Organic, I like it. DD is a ketchup junkie if she won't try something it usually just takes a squirt of ketchup to entice her to give it another thought.
  • We use Trader Joe's too!

I eat low carb so I eat a lot of meat...and I like ketchup on almost all of it...but feel weird sitting around eating my locally sourced, grassfed animal with ketchup containing HFCS. I don't eat potatoes on my diet plan so fries are the one thing I don't eat with ketchup :)

  • We don't use ketchup, I make mustard and mayo that we use. Ketchup is too sweet for us.
  • Whole Food 365 brand organic. Its very good.
  • We use Heinz organic.

We eat a lot of veggie burgers, sweet potato fries, roasted potatoes, etc.

His soup!? I think we have a winner for most unusual ketchup use!!

Yeah I guess I don't really eat any of the things people listed, well except eggs, but that's just crazy! Stick out tongue

  • Bloom's organic house brand, Nature's Place.  I had trouble giving up my Heinz for awhile too, all the organic brands I tried were too sweet.  I didn't like Annie's and we don't have a Trader Joe's nearby.  Nature's Place is good though.  No GMO oil in it either,  I'd seen other organic brands made with the ubiquitous "vegetable oil" which is certainly GMO corn, canola, or soy.

  • I haven't tried organic ketchup, but would like to if I can find some. I made sloppy joes last week and needed ketchup, but was out and i made some instead. I had to use tomato paste from a can (organic tomato paste Smile) I don't know that I love it (since we haven't really used it on burgers) but it is a good substitute when added to recipes.

    • 6 ounce can no-salt-added tomato paste
    • 1/3 cup tap water
    • 2 tablespoons vinegar
    • 1/4 teaspoon dry mustard
    • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt
    • 1 pinch cloves
    • 1 pinch allspice
    • 1/8 cayenne pepper
    • 1/3 cup brown sugar

In a medium bowl combine all of the ingredients with a wire whisk. Blend well. Scrape the mixture into a pint-sized, resealable container. Chill overnight, to blend the flavors.

Yes, DH can eat some *interesting* combinations sometimes.  I can't even stand to see ketchup on eggs. Stick out tongue

This is sacrelige to a person from Pittsburgh.

I put ketchup on all forms of potatoes, eggs, meatloaf, sandwiches, BBQ sauce . . . that's all I can think of for now, but I use it quite a lot.
