NJ Nestie coming for some tips!
Hi ladies..I am a NJ nestie that may be relocating to the Cambridge/Boston area if my husband's job relocates him. I was wondering if anyone had any town suggestions within 25 miles of Cambridge? Our main priority is a town that has a good school system. Thanks very much for any tips you have.

There's tons of options. Newton has a great school system, but houses are so expensive there.
I'm also from NJ and an educator! I would suggest Brookline or Newton. Not too familiar with cities further away from Boston/Cambridge. Good luck!
I'll caveat that I don't know a ton about school systems since I don't have kids, but Cambridge, Newton, Belmont, and Lexington should all fit your profile. Accordingly, they are all also really expensive. The first three towns probably won't have much new construction if that's what you're looking for, but there are lots of great older homes that certainly aren't falling apart
Personally I'm not a fan of Natick or Quincy. Natick is too far from downtown Boston for my tastes and I think of it more as a commercial and shopping area than as a place to live (but that could be because of the ginormous Natick Collection mall and all the shopping on Rt. 9). I don't like Quincy because commuting on I-93 is horrible, and I'm generally not a big fan of the South Shore area, but that's me.
I did a little research on Cambridge schools a few years ago and I do not think they are that great. Newton and Lexington are very good but you will have to spend in the $600-700K range to get a decent house. I know Melrose is kind of a hot area now and not too far from Cambridge. I don't know how the schools are though. Arlington has decent schools and is right next to Cambridge. Waltham and Watertown are also close but the schools are average. However, I do know a number of people with kids in the Waltham elementary schools and they are pleased with them.
ETA - I agree with Rock on Natick. Quincy is not horrible for commuting if DH can take the Red Line "T". Keep in mind that 25 miles from Cambridge can mean a 1.5 hour commute (one way) around here.
