Re: ?Mamas & Mamas to Be: Weekly Check-in?
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?
38 weeks, 3 days (I'm ahead of the ticker due to being in Australia lol). Maya is 2 years, 5 mths.
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
When it's cooler weather, I feel fine. When it's hot (like it has been lately and today) I feel heavy as an elephant lol.
Emotionally, again, I am feeling a need to spend as much one-on-one time with Maya. I already miss our small twosome (during the days when her daddy is at work).
She has been a little champion in that, Josh has been putting her to bed and he only stays with her for 15-20 minutes and he kisses her g'night and walks out of the room. She doesn't even leave her bed, let alone come out. Nor does she cry. She just stays on her bed and chatters away to herself, sings herself songs etc for maybe a good hour, hour and a half, until she falls asleep.
I.Am.Amazed! So impressed with her!
However, last night, after an hour since she'd been put down and there was silence in her room, I felt the strongest urge to just lay down with her and cuddle her. So, I peeked in her room and was almost disappointed when I thought that she was already asleep. She lifted her head and looked at me and I asked "Can I come and snuggle with you, baby?". I lay down with her and she threw her little arms around my neck, stroked my cheek with one hand and said "Awwwww, you're CUTE, mummy! I loves you!".
She is my heart in this world. The love I have for her is too big for even me to fathom.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
Today. I have been assigned to see an ob again (instead of a midwife) because of bubs being head up at last appointment. If bubs is head up (or transverse) at THIS appointment then he will most likely try to schedule me for a C-section sometime in the next 4-5 days.
To which I will reply "No thanks". I am planning on telling them that I am going to let my body go into labour of it's own accord. If bubs hasn't turned by the time I am in labour, then we'll discuss a c-section.
So, can I get some 'head down baby' vibes please?!
(4) Cloth diapers or disposables? Reasoning?
Cloth. The economic savings alone are astounding. They also seem more comfy for the kidlet.
(5) Strangest symptom/side effect of pregnancy?
Ok, this is REALLY TMI but...wtf is all this discharge coming from?! I need to change knickers like twice a freakin day!
(6) Strangest craving?
I am still just craving fruit mainly. At the moment, it's peaches. Also partial to chocolate milk at the end of a hot day.
(8) For mommies: Favorite part of the actual birth?
When I reached the 'Rest & Be Thankful' part of natural labour. It comes right between active labour and pushing and lasts about 20 minutes where you go into a wonderful sleepy, trance-like state.
Overall though? Obviously when she was born and passed to me through my legs. Best moment in my life, ever.
Tina you have such a beautiful way with words! I have a hard time putting into words how much my life has changed (in a good way) and how much I love Elyse! This describes it perfectly, I'm in tears.
Just imagine how big your heart is going to be and how much more love you will have when your second little one arrives (in a few short days!).
Married Bio
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 37 weeks exactly
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? Felling pretty good, but definitely noticing more physical ailments. My feet finally decided to swell and not really go back down and my carpal tunnel symptoms are getting worse.
Also, within the last few days I have starting to have contractions that I can actually feel (period crampy type and the tightness wraps around to my back) and have the baby dropping "lightning" pains.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? on weekly appts. now - next one is tomorrow. Last birth class is also tomorrow AND we did the hospital tour last weekend. It was ok.
(4) Cloth diapers or disposables? Reasoning? cloth. For many reasons: cost saving, no chemicals, environmental, and both my sister and I were cloth diapers (w/out the "fancy" kind they make now) so it isn't that odd to me.
(5) Strangest symptom/side effect of pregnancy? the carpal tunnel. I know it's not strange - lots of women get it - but it's just the oddest feeling. My hands don't ache that much, probably because I use splints and have been using arnica oil, but the numbness drives me nuts and I always drop things.
(6) Strangest craving? nothing too strange. I could eat fruit all day, every day. I guess the oddest thing - I usually don't eat meat other than seafood but during pregnancy I was determined to eat it IF my body wanted it (usually it grosses me out) and there were some times when elk stew or a hamburger smelled/sounded good so I went with it.(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 27 weeks and 2 days. And I'm feeling every minute of it lol.
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? Exhausted! And huge! LOL! No real milestones as such, except that I'm swiftly approaching the same size as someone carrying a singleton at 40 weeks. Sheesh.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? Feb 15. I've gone up to every other week at my doctor instead of once a month now. Big ultrasounds...kinda. I'm meeting with the super high risk specialist at the hospital at the end of the month - no big deal, there's nothing wrong, it's just a sort of meet and greet in case I end up needing him for any reason. His speciality is ultrasounds, and apparently he has some kind of swanky super special u/s machine, so I'll probably have a scan with that. Will let you know!
(4) Cloth diapers or disposables? Reasoning? Cloth. Because I'm a tightwad lol. Disposables would cost us about $3k a year for twins, and cloth is literally half that. There are soooo many other increased expenses with twins that I'm slashing the budget wherever I can! That said, we will be using disposable for probably the first 6 weeks or so - the twins will likely be born a bit too small to fit the "small" size of cloth diapers, and since there's virtually no secondhand market here, I don't want to have to buy a whole other smaller size just for that first month or two (it would actually work out to be more expensive than just doing disposables for that period of time).
(5) Strangest symptom/side effect of pregnancy? OMG I'm with Tina on the discharge. It is RIDICULOUS!
(6) Strangest craving? Well it's not really strange, but I did go through a massive dill pickle phase (sooo cliched, I know!). Like to the point where I'd walk around the house carrying an 8lb jar of pickles and eating them straight from the jar lol.
SIDE NOTE: Does anyone know how often it's normal to get Braxton Hicks contractions? All of the books and websites just say "occasionally" which doesn't really help me. I get an average of probably one per hour, sometimes two. I've read that unless it's 5-6 per hour it's not anything to worry about, but it just seems like it's happening more often than might be usual? My doctor will be calling me tomorrow with results from my follow up GD test so I'll ask him then, but in the meantime I just thought I'd check in with you ladies!
20 weeks. (5 months next week) (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
Still tired but used to it! Ha. So many new things... She is rolling like crazy and now getting up on her knees, so I fear crawling will start soon! She is also reaching out to touch our faces, which is so cute! And she loves JUMPING and dancing. Lots of big smiles! And she just this week started reaching for my food and taking an interest in trying to sip water out of a cup. Plus, I think she's teething. Oh, and she just found her feet (finally) and seems to think that it's fun to put them in her mouth (!!!). And she's getting better at sitting on her own. Yay! (3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?Next appointment is 6-mo check-up in March. Biggest thing coming up is that we are doing to do a trial run at daycare on Thurs or Fri. And I'll take her by my office on Monday!(4) Cloth diapers or disposables? Reasoning?Disposables and gDiapers. Because I will be a working mom and don't have time to deal. Plus I thought cloth sounded gross. I must say tho that there is a short period of time between when breastfeed babies start to have infrequent stools (2 months) until they start solids (6 months) where cloth totally makes sense because all her diapers are wets and don't smell at all. I wouldn't mind washing those! (5) Strangest symptom/side effect of pregnancy?Hair falling out. Does it EVER stop? My house has a carpet of my hair everywhere. Arg.(6) Strangest craving?Strange that now that I am no longer pregnant that I no longer crave alcoholic drinks..... (8) For mommies: Favorite part of the actual birth?
I was induced, then had a c-section for lack of progress. It wasn't that memorable. Favorite part was hearing her cry when they pulled her out! I started bawling. It was so unreal.

Please add Libby's middle name...Joan. So Elizabeth (Libby) Joan...thanks!
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?
One week and two days old; last Saturday was her official EDD.
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
Vacillating between so exhausted all I can do is cry and doubt myself to pure elation and joy with lots of energy. I have had fits of giggles all week!
I am told this is all perfectly normal due to hormones, adjusting to life with baby, etc.. I have about one crying jag a day and it usually when the sun goes down and I realize that I am faced with a long, restless night ahead (Libby has been cluster feeding from 12 -5 a.m.). I also cry tears of joy once a day from just looking at my LO.
Milestones?
My milk came in!
Libby's starting to hold her head up and turn it in the direction of our voices.
We also started CDing on Sunday (all of her meconium had passed) and she lost her umbilical stub at 5 days old. At her ped appt. last Friday, she passed the jaundice test (she was rated medium-high risk when she came home from the hospital last week. So that's a relief.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
February 10 for Libby's pediatrician follow-up. We have her newborn photo shoot tomorrow.
Exciting for me?
I am down 30 lbs. since delivering Libby. That makes me 10 lbs. lighter than when we conceived. I am thrilled and hope the trend continues!
(4) Cloth diapers or disposables? Reasoning?
CDs for us...we did use sposie wipes and dipes her first week due to meconium and also DH just learned to change a diaper from the nursery nurse the day Libby was born! I didn't want to shake his confidence with just coming home with her and jumping right into CDs. We started CDing when she was 6 days old. For us, it comes down to economics and ecology. Hopefully it agrees with our LO too.
(5) Strangest symptom/side effect of pregnancy?
Ugh, where do I begin? Worst one for me is dark, random hair growth in places no woman should have hair. 'Nuff said.
(6) Strangest craving?
Had to have fish and chips in the first tri. That lasted about a week and then it was bagels and lox for a while there in the second tri.
(7) For TTCers: Which cycle are you on? Where in the cycle are you? What, if anything, are you doing to have success TTCing? Is there a good website for a primer on TTC for those of us who don?t understand the code?

Also The Bump has a glossary and there are explanations at FertilityFriend.com too.(8) For mommies: Favorite part of the actual birth?
When they announced it was time for me to get ready to start pushing. A wave of excited crashed over me. The most amazing moment is when they placed her on my chest. I'll never forget it. She latched on and was breast feeding within minutes. Simply incredible.

(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?
He was 12 weeks on Monday!
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
I am still having weird bleeding - can't seem to get regulated in that department. Still having pain on my left side, but had a f/u u/s today and found that the cyst on my right side is gone, but that I have varicose veins in there now, mostly on the left side - and the tech suggested that could be the reason for the pain. I plan to call the dr later today to find out.
LO is doing well - he's able to get his hands in his mouth more often on purpose now. He did have a 5 hour meltdown on Monday which necessitated my leaving work early. He's been pretty fussy this week - maybe something to do with the Zantac? Not sure. We go back for a followup next week, but I may call before then to see if we should do something different - maybe change formulas to a more sensitive type?
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
next week for weight check to see if dose on meds needs to be changed
(4) Cloth diapers or disposables? Reasoning?
disposables. Dh didn't want to hear anything about cloth diapers, and since he is our "daycare provider", I let him have that. We may try G- Diapers sometime though. I'm finding it's not as expensive as I thought though.
(5) Strangest symptom/side effect of pregnancy?
I had this really weird thing where if something was REALLY funny, I would laugh so hard I would start to cry, and then cry hysterically and it would turn into a sad cry and I would be really sad! Stupid hormones!
(6) Strangest craving?
pickles occassionally, chocolate always, potatoes! also, I just wanted to cuddle a lot!
(7) For TTCers: Which cycle are you on? Where in the cycle are you? What, if anything, are you doing to have success TTCing? Is there a good website for a primer on TTC for those of us who don?t understand the code? J
Thanks, Lori!
(8) For mommies: Favorite part of the actual birth?
When they gave me the additional meds for surgery. I was in so much pain before then, even w/ the epidural. It was funny watching DH update FB during the contractions all day though. And I was texting my BFF during the day as well. I didn't get to hold him after the c/s, DH did, but then he went up to the nursery - perhaps this is why we had so much trouble BFing? Dunno... possibility. I don't think I held him until I moved to post partum?
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? Still nauseous a lot. - knock on wood - not too much pukey. and tired, but okay overall.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? 1st appointment tomorrow!
(4) Cloth diapers or disposables? Reasoning? disposables - I am going to have to work so that means baby in daycare & most daycare have a disposable only policy
(5) Strangest symptom/side effect of pregnancy? nothing too strange yet, but I am sure something is coming
(6) Strangest craving? coke icee - I have always loved them but never really drank them b/c of the sugar. But now I want them all of the time, even before I knew I was pg. and nothing settles my stomach like them (which I am sure is mental but hey, if it works!)
I had frequent (often strong where my entire stomach would be hard) braxton hicks from 26 weeks until the end. My midwife explained that I had an irritable uterus and that I would feel my uterus contracting more that others. She told me it was nothing for me to worry about.

(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?
Elyse is 7weeks this week.
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
I'm feeling really well (both physically and mentally). I feel like I have things somewhat figured out and am comfortable with the fact that everything will probably change tomorrow
The midwife found a click in Elyse's hip during her first check up, we were referred to a pediatrician who sent us for an ultrasound. We just had our follow up apt this Monday and it turns out Elyse has a "hint" of hip displaysia. We've now been referred to an orthopedic surgeon. I'm really hoping we get in soon so find out what we need to do to help correct it. Luckily we have a great orthopedic surgeon in town so we don't have to travel.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
Elyse goes for her two month shots next week.
(4) Cloth diapers or disposables? Reasoning?
We're currently using disposables, but I'm looking at starting CDing soon. Our reasoning is primarily environmental.
(5) Strangest symptom/side effect of pregnancy?
I didn't really have any strange symptons or side effects.
(6) Strangest craving?
I craved McDonalds like crazy and I don't like McDonalds normally. Those cheese burgers were irrisistable to me!(8) For mommies: Favorite part of the actual birth?
I had a very good labour and delivery, so I have a few favorite parts.
I thought it was amazing when my water broke. I actually heard the bag pop. I was very happy that I was laboring on the toilet at that point.
I was also really glad that my midwife had a mirror. Seeing her head crowning gave me additional motivation to push when I was so tired at the end.
We have lots of funny quotes from while I was laboring that we still laugh about now. It was an amazing experience for both Russ and I.
I feel like I should also include the moment they placed Elyse on my chest, but honestly I was so afraid to hold her. I was shaking like crazy and I was afraid of being stitched. My favorite memory of holding her was after the stitching was done and we were alone in the recovery room. I was leaning on Russ and holding her. It was the first time I felt an immense wave of love wash over me. We were a family!

(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 32 weeks, 2 days
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
We had an ultrasound yesterday and baby is measuring right on track at about 4 lbs. He/she is also head down now and hopefully staying that way. Baby is kicking up a storm and DH spent an hour last night with his hands on my belly, feeling his LO move. I'm so glad I can finally share that with him - beyond the single kicks here and there.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
2 weeks for a regular check up
(4) Cloth diapers or disposables? Reasoning?
Mostly cloth, but disposables when we go out. A couple reasons. (1) practicality -- I'll be a SAHM for 6 months and still with baby a lot when I go back to work PT -- so I think I have the luxury of trying it out. (2) environmental -- I just really have a hard time imagining those thousands of diapers in a landfill, especially on Oahu, where we already have to SHIP our trash to mainland landfills. I want to TRY to reduce that in some way (esp. since we plan for more babies later). (3) cost savings -- this is icing on the cake for us, but I'd still give it a try even if it were the same price as disposables.
My tentative plan for wipes is to simply use Viva towels and homemade gentle wiping solution. This was highly recommended by a couple friends.
(5) Strangest symptom/side effect of pregnancy?
My right nostril constantly bleeds. Sometimes in the middle of the day, in PUBLIC! So if I feel the least bit of moisture there, I immediately check to make sure I'm not dripping a lovely line of blood.
(6) Strangest craving?
Nothing in particular. Three things I eat more now than ever are potato chips, soda, and canned peaches. I never ate those before, so even having them occasionally is strange for me.
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?
Brooke is 8.5 months
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
She's crawling!!! It is fun and exciting, but also a LOT more work. She's also trying to pull up on things and get up on her knees.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
In about 2 weeks for her 9 month check up
(4) Cloth diapers or disposables? Reasoning?
Disposables. I didn't really consider cloth and once I realized how do-able it was, I couldn't get Vance on board.
(5) Strangest symptom/side effect of pregnancy?

I had a LOT of heartburn. Tums was my best friend
(6) Strangest craving?
Ate a strawberry pop-tart and milk EVERY DAY of pregnancy!
(7) For TTCers: Which cycle are you on? Where in the cycle are you? What, if anything, are you doing to have success TTCing? Is there a good website for a primer on TTC for those of us who don?t understand the code? J
(8) For mommies: Favorite part of the actual birth?
Definitely when it was over. Does that count? If not... then maybe when my water broke. Simply because it meant we were THAT much closer to meeting her.

Jaylee is 7 1/2 months old!!!
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
She's cutting her two top teeth at the same time. She also got her first ear infection and let me tell you I feel sooo bad for her, the teething and ear infection are not helling her. poor thing is getting up 4 to 5 times a night. But the anti-biotics are starting to work. She is also starting to pull herself up on things (crib, couch, chairs) and crusing along them. It's soo cute..
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
2 months for her 9 month check up.
(4) Cloth diapers or disposables? Reasoning?
Disposables. Didn't really consider cloth since the babysitter didn't want to deal with them and they were so much easier. Now I kinda wish that we had. maybe with the 2nd one.
(5) Strangest symptom/side effect of pregnancy?
The random leg cramps I would get in the middle of the night. I would wake up screaming in pain and freak out my husband thinking I was in labor.
(6) Strangest craving?
I craved cuties (those little mandrain oranges)n and would buy bags and bags of them at costco. I also loved a snickers icrecream bar in the last tri.
(8) For mommies: Favorite part of the actual birth? Getting to hear Jaylee cry of the first time. When she was born I made a comment about why wasn't she crying. The dr. and James just laughed. Also the feeling of her on my chest. She was finally here and all those hours of labor were totally worth it.
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?
I am 15 weeks, 3 days
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
I'm having a lot of headaches and lower back pain, but otherwise great! I'm not nauseated at all anymore (in fact, my appetite is back with a vengeance!), and I'm starting to feel a lot more energetic, although I still do need about 9 hours of sleep each night (of course, getting up to pee every two hours!)
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
Appointment tomorrow! Although I won't have another ultrasound for another four week, when we get the big one.....can't wait!
(4) Cloth diapers or disposables? Reasoning?
I'm struggling with this right now. I initially thought cloth, but MH still needs some convincing, and while the daycare center we toured said that they could, they have never had an infant in cloth before, and didn't sound thrilled at the thought. If we did do cloth, we'd probably have a diaper service, so I don't think we'd save much money, it would just be for environmental reasons.
(5) Strangest symptom/side effect of pregnancy?
This is hard to explain, but I guess the best way to describe it is that I'm so needy all the time!! I was always a very independent person, and kind of liked it when MH had to work late 2-3 nights a week, so I could have some 'me' time. Now I hate being alone, and want to snuggle all the time. Luckily, MH is being really understanding of this, and I stop by his work often when he works late, and we have dinner together if the clinic isn't busy.
(6) Strangest craving?
Orange juice every. single. morning. I can't seem to get moving without it, and I never drank it before! I seem to want lots of very acidic foods at the moment.
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?
38w6d
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
So ready for her to be out! Still having major lightning crotch at times. Every night when I go to work, people say, "You're still pregnant?!" Grr.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
Tomorrow. Maybe I'll have my membranes stripped again. Hoping for progress. Think I may discuss induction for if I go past my due date.
(4) Cloth diapers or disposables? Reasoning?
Cloth. It started out as environmental for me, but then we realized how much money we could save and B is all about that.
(5) Strangest symptom/side effect of pregnancy?
Lightning crotch, for sure. I heard about it, but had no idea it could be so painful. Otherwise, I've been lucky to have it pretty easy.
(6) Strangest craving?
Nothing strange, really. Lately I've been craving Hawaiian Sun Passion Orange! Love that stuff, even though it's basically sugar water.
Awwww, thanks Teri! Usually words don't come close to describing how you feel, eh?!
I DO hear other mothers say that the love doubles and your heart gets bigger with each child. I'm SO looking forward to it!
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?
16 weeks 1 day
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
I have the cold that is going around my school. Sinus congestion, sneezing and a runny nose do not make for pleasant sleep. Otherwise, I'm fine
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
February 17, we find out the sex (if baby cooperates!!) Next appointment the 23rd of February
(4) Cloth diapers or disposables? Reasoning?
we are going to CD at home and use disposables because we have to put little one in daycare and daycare in this area do not do CD
(5) Strangest symptom/side effect of pregnancy?
nothing yet
(6) Strangest craving?
mine is pizza....lots and lots of pizza
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 21w1d
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? the last few days he has become very active and sometimes it feels like he has a knife trying to cut his was out..ouch
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? Feb 23 for another u/s to check problems from the last one
(4) Cloth diapers or disposables? Reasoning? disposables b/c even though the cloth is cheaper it just grosses me out and we don't plan to have any more so not a huge savings for us
(5) Strangest symptom/side effect of pregnancy? peeing on myself b/c he thinks its funny to use mommy's bladder as a trampoline. On the last u/s she could see him standing, kicking, or pushing his legs against it.
(6) Strangest craving? I just want ice cream all the time, but that is not a lot different than before
(7) For TTCers: Which cycle are you on? Where in the cycle are you? What, if anything, are you doing to have success TTCing? Is there a good website for a primer on TTC for those of us who don?t understand the code? J
