One of dh's employees is getting divorced. They've been married 15 years. 3 kids aged 5-10. The middle one is his. Apparently he's been ordered to pay $1900/mo in support.
If that's true his lawyer sucked.
Re: Other gossip
i'm confused at the timing of children.
how is the middle one his, but not the younger one...?
sounds like this may be best for him anyway. and correct me if i'm wrong, but parentage of children is assumed to be from the spouse, so i could imagine how he would be asked to pay that much in support.
i dont' know if paternity tests can undo the assumed parentage rule.
Um, what?
I think someone got the figure wrong. Maybe it was $19/month?
Is his name on 1 and 3's birth certificate? Or legally adopted them?
Otherwise whoa at $1900 a month for child support.
and was he aware that #1 wasn't his when they decided #2 was a good idea?

I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929
I thought child support payments were based on the children's needs. I've heard of payments taking 80-90% of take-home pay. (We're wondering how this will work with SIL & BIL, since he makes almost nothing and will have 3 kids to pay support for.)
$1900/mo doesn't sound like a lot to feed, shelter, and clothe 3 kids, unless it's in a seriously LCOL area.
Me either. And if he's a deadbeat it's worse. I've been in contact with multiple people who have the max garnished from their paycheck because they failed to pay support, and when one garnishment order ends another begins. Seriously, one guy has continuous garnishments for like 8 years or something.
Only 1 kid is his, although I'm sure he is paying for all 3. This is seriously LCOL too. You can buy a house here for $40k.
