Tres Leches

Anyone know a spot that makes a good one?  DH's birthday is coming up and while my cooking skills are improving I'm not ready for this one yet.  I would love to be able to pick him up one though.

Re: Tres Leches

  • I love the tres leches at Chuy's!!

  • I like it at Whole Foods, but I don't know how regularly they have whole cakes of it.

  • Fiesta makes good ones...
  • Ditto, Fiesta.  They are so good that we bought one for our groom's cake.  We had them leave off the jelly goop and the fruit because it can get a little ugly when it dries... I got a ton more compliments on the tres leches than I did on my wedding cake that cost 6x as much!

Try to make one!  Pioneer woman's recipe is easy and its the best I've ever had.  Ever.  You can do it!

  • There's a bakery on S. 1st (bet. Riverside and Oltorf - I think around Live Oak) called La Mexicana. Their Tres Leches is the best I've had.
  • if it's within your budget, my favorite tres leches is done by http://www.michellespatisserie.com/ and she can do whatever design your (or his) heart desires.
  • Hands down x 100, Hula Hut has the best!  They give you praline crispy things and fresh cut strawberries too.  I often buy a pan from them for parties, etc.  Just call a few days in advance.  My DH and I are always on the prowl for our favorite tres leches, and Hula Hut is by far our fav.
  • A lady here at work makes them and they are amazing and authentic.  She'll make one for you for a very reasonable price.

  • Not sure if you are north, but there's this awesome bakery in Round Rock at McNeil Road and Round Rock West Drive that makes a great one (can't remember the name!).  I had it for my bachelorette party.  Yum!
