Relocation Recommendations

Hello everyone!  I am a nestie from Cleveland looking to possibly relocate to Milwaukee.  Anything you can tell me about living in the city...pros and cons about living there?  Also, any suggested neighborhoods in the city?  Not really looking to live in suburban areas.

Re: Relocation Recommendations

  • Are you planning on buying a home or condo?

I live in the city on the northwest side in a neighbor made up of mostly teachers, police officers and firemen (there is a rule that if you work for the city you have to live in the city so you find pockets of neighbors where it's mostly city workers).  Hmm......what's nice about living in the city.......well, we have great neighbors and we live near a very nice park but to be honest the city of Milwaukee has very high property taxes and the public schools are horrendous.   If you don't have children the schools aren't so much of an issue but the property taxes might be.

If you're looking for more urban than a home in the city you could look at living in the Third Ward downtown which is mainly condos but you're close to everything, including the lake.

I've lived in Wisconsin my entire life and sometimes think about moving to a place with better weather and cheaper cost of living but really, we have so much here that it would be hard to leave. I love that we're not a huge city but we're big enough to have baseball, basketball, ballet, opera, etc.

If you want a city neighborhood and you and your husband are young, hip and trendy you could look at Bay View and some of the east side neighborhoods.

Right down the street from our home is Wauwatosa which is a city neighborhood in Milwaukee County.  It's more families with young children than say the downtown neighborhoods.

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then success with condoms! Who would ever have guessed.
