I have a Jojo ? RE Hook'as post

Would a doctor notice that you were pregnant just based on a pap?  Like does your cervix actually look different during pregnancy?  It seems there have been lots of women on IDKIWP who have been under the care of a doctor, but no one told them to POAS because they didn't think pregnancy was possible, too old, etc.

  • I know your cervix always looks different *after* you had a child. As in, once you have given birth, it always looks different afterwards. I also know your cervix changes position while you are ovulating. But that is all I know about that.

  • I know my junkdrawer is weird since I caught the PG.

But I don't know if it's clearly 'PG' weird or just...extra weird for me.

If you had a vaginal delivery - I imagine mine is not significantly different from before having Bacon, since I dilated slightly, but did not deliver.

And your cervix will SHOW you when you're fertile: it will be Soft, High, Open, and Wet. Nothing like hearing that in a room full of other people forced to do NFP classes.

  • Yes, contingent on a vaginal delivery.

Since the fertile cervix was descibed as being open and high, I figured it would look, in addition to feel, different. Also, I have no way of knowing if my cervix is high, open, and wet. Also also, CM has me extremely freaked out.

  • If you're getting a Pap, you're probably getting a pelvic exam. Really early in pregnancy, you may not be able to tell but they should be able to tell later on. When I went in for my 7 week exam they did a pelvic exam and she could tell I was pregnant as my uterus was already a little enlarged.
  • I meant the bi-manual exam portion of the annual junk drawer check. Everyone gets this before the FITB, right? Please tell me my doctor isn't a creepy molester.

  • My doc feels around in my junkdrawer, applying pressure inside and out, at my annual exam.

However, I do not get a FITB.  I refuse until I turn 40 tyvm.

  • I get the in/out pelvic/lower abdomen exam, but no doctor has ever gone all FITB on me.

  • I think I've had a few FITB exams, but I'd rather know that I'm good than find out late.  Meh.  It's just your butt.

  • I'm no Jojo but I remembered reading about this way back when so I googled. Q: What changes occur to the cervix during early pregnancy? A: Many changes happen to the cervix during pregnancy. Early on, the cells on the outside of the cervix become hypertrophied or more prominent. During the first exam, very early in pregnancy, sometimes you can actually see a blue cervix, due to increased blood vessel changes. Sometimes a little bit of bleeding can occur after normal activity or sex. Usually this is not dangerous, but it's very alarming to a newly pregnant woman. Another change that can happen due to hormonal changes is that the cervical opening can become a little more relaxed. http://health.discovery.com/centers/pregnancy/ultimate-pregnancy/faq.html
