I cried today...

...when I left my baby girl to go back to work Crying  She will be 12 weeks old tomorrow and my first day back at work was today. I didn't think I was going to be so emotional, esp. since after 6 weeks of maternity leave I felt totally ready to go back to work.... but I was sooooo sad to leave her this morning. I didn't want to let her go... DH had to pry her from my arms and push me out the door! I never thought it would be so hard!

thankfully, we can afford for me to work just part time.  I gave her the biggest hug when I got home and her big smile just melted my heart Smile

Re: I cried today...

  • Awww!! But good thing you're able to work part time! That would be sooo ideal for me but I have no idea whether it's feasible yet (still have to figure that out). Btw, little A's smile makes me smile too =) I saw your pics recently on FB and I can't believe she smiles so much already and for the camera too!

  • It'll get better.  I remember crying when I had to go back to work and calling the DCP to check on my DD.
  • aw!  Did you leave her with a DCP or with YH?

It's good that you can afford to only work PT though!

  • aw, it must be so wonderful to have her to look forward to... and to come home to!  i can't wait to experience that.  in a way, i can see how it's good to miss your child sometimes.  Big Smile

  • It happens to the best of us Jaime Wink The first day is always the hardest but it gets easier with time. You're so lucky to be able to work part-time!

  • I can only imagine how hard that was!  I'm glad you only have to work PT and are able to spend more time w/ her.

you know, I always thought smiling was something babies didn't do until they were a little older...but she was already smiling when we were in the hospital :) I was shocked that she'd "know" how to smile so early on

But now it's so fun now b/c she will smile to see if we smile back and if we smile at her, she'll often smile back :) I guess that's called "social smiling" and that is what develops as they grow

Haha. I called MH three times yesterday to check on her!

I left her with MH, he had the day off.  So it wasn't even like I was leaving her with a stranger or anything...but still, it was so hard! If he is off (he gets a whopping 4 days off per month) and I happen to be able to schedule work when he is off then he is taking care of her to help save on child care costs...but otherwise we have a coworker friend of mine who will take care of her on the other days I'm working.  It really sucks living away from both of our families and not having anyone who can take care of her, but I'm grateful to at least have this friend who can do this for us.

  • Oh Jaime!  What a day...at least you were able to leave her with DH.  I hear you on not having family nearby...at least we have my mom, but it just the three of us and Libby.  It's weird to have a newborn and no visitors, etc.  Kinda nice too though.  My best friends are coming out in a few weeks.

I can only imagine the tears that will flow when I am back to work too.  Sucks that in this day and age we can't just be home loving our babies full time.  That said, I know you enjoy your work (as do I) and what an example you'll be setting for A.

     That is so sweet!

I hope it get easier for you from here on out. I'm sure I'll be a basket case.
