Poll: Taxes

Do you do your own taxes or have a professional do them?  If you have a professional do them, do you take them to H&R Block or one of those companies or go to a private individual accountant?

We do them ourselves (and by ourselves, I really mean DH does them) using TurboTax.  I actually mailed them out today.

We use an accountant but that is because our taxes are tied to DH's parents' company and it becomes very confusing.

DH owns his own company so we have a CPA do the company & our personal taxes every year.

Ditto this - online we e-filed. And I'm happy to say that I filed mine Monday and should already have our refund next Friday!

I did ours this year via turbo tax & efiled last friday. Last year I went to a professional because of my personal business and other issues. He saved us thousands. This year DH & I only had our w2's and the house. It wasn't worth the cost to take it to the pro.

Turbo tax, but I use the middle level one that you pay for - just b/c I don't want to bypass some deductions I know we should get. 

My dad's a CPA too - so I have him do a onceover after I'm done for a sanity check.  I just hate bugging him during tax season - he's always super busy.

Another TurboTax user because our returns are fairly simple. If we had more complicated stuff do deal with, then we'd probably take them to someone. And like MrsRed RaiderGirl, my dad is pretty handy with the tax forms (an attorney), so he usually gives em a look over before we send them in.

H and R block made me royally mad a few years ago and I swore I would never come back.  I actually walked out with my paperwork in hand mid-meeting...

Anyway, since then I file online with turbo tax and E-File so I get the refund asap.  Currently my taxes (with DH) are very simple and I feel comfortable doing it myself online.  (Doing stuff like this isn't DH's "thing"... this is why I pay all bills and take care of anything with a deadline.   I'm not sure how he functions at work... but I guess they're paying him...)

I've been very happy with turbo tax.  Super user friendly.

We used Turbo Tax this year and I'm wondering if it might be a good idea to use a CPA instead.  We just inputted our stuff and we OWE for the second year in a row.  I'm wondering if we're doing something wrong.

I use TaxAct - it's free and has always done a good job getting me all the deductions I can.  you can also e-file from it and it's still free.

I file ours ... either TurboTax or H&R Block online ... I can't remember which one I liked better.

Ours are fairly easy - we both have employers that take out taxes, and write-offs like cars and the house are easy because the program walks you right through it!
