I think I need one! But I'm such a book lover - the feel, the smell....will I miss that?? It amazes me that one little device can hold 1500 books, and it's much cheaper to download them than to buy them in hard copy. It's pricey to get the device, but the money you save in books (seriously like $9.99 for a new release as compared to over $20) could make it worthwhile in the long run. The other thing that got me to thinking about it is packing space. I'm in Rome and taking 4 books with me took up some space! And, if I need another book I could download it rather than buying another.
So....do you have a Kindle or other ereader? Do you love it? Reviews/thoughts/opinions?
Re: Who has a Kindle??
You sound just like me a few months ago! I got a Kindle for Christmas this year from MH. He knows I love to read, and thought that it would be great for later in pregnancy/early with LO when I might not want to walk to the bookstore whenever I finish a book. Honestly, when I opened it I was......a little disappointed. I LOVE books, just like you said: the smell, the feel, everything! I was so worried that I wouldn't like staring at a screen to read.
But.....
Um, I love it! It has sooooo grown on me in the past month or so. I love how portable it is, I can slip it in my purse much better than hardbacks. When I finish a book I can immediately start shopping for a new one with the wireless feature. And yes, the books are so cheap! When I got it there was a book I had recently purchased for $24.99, and was only on the second chapter. Just for comparison's sake, I checked how much it would be on the Kindle, and it was $5.99!!!
I also like that it doesn't look like a screen AT ALL. It has a very soft look that looks just like it is ink printed on recycled paper, which does not strain my eyes a bit, like a computer screen would. This might be a strange thing to like, but I also like that it sits flat. When Dan works late, I like to read while I eat my dinner alone, and with a real book it can be difficult to hold the book open with one hand, and eat with the other (especially when eating sandwiches, etc.). Anyway I can prop the Kindle up and it won't snap shut on me....a silly thing, like I said, but I do like that!
The ONLY drawback that I have seen so far is that sometime new releases aren't available as early as the actual book. For example, there is a new release by an author I like released in hardback this past Tuesday, and the Kindle version won't be available until May....boo! This is encourage you to spend more and get the hardback. But this isn't the case for ALL new releases, just some.
Bottom line...... I totally think it's worth it, especially if you travel a lot. I'll still read actual books sometimes, but it's a great device that I've starting to become totally addicted to!
Ooohh good question Amy! I've been curious as well.
What about at the gym? I wonder if it would be user friendly there when working out on one of the machines. It can be tedious for me when I get going on the elliptical and have to hold back one of the sides of the books. I know, there's worse things in life..........but I hope you get my point!
I got one from MIL for Christmas and it's great! After a few minutes, I forgot I was even looking at a screen (except for the occasional glare, which I think I can take care of with an anti-glare cover).
I can adjust the text size to make it larger when I'm not wearing my glasses. It saves my place - no more lost bookmarks - and synchs with my iPhone so that even if I don't have my Kindle with me, if I get stuck somewhere I can still read my book.
But the main reason I wanted it, and love it so much, is that It's SO EASY to travel with! The only exception is that, on a plane, I can't use it for the first/last 20 minutes of the flight because it's a portable electronic device.
I've always been a library junkie, but now with the Kindle, I'm actually paying for books for the first time in years. It's worth it! I love my Kindle.

Wow, I did not know that!!!! I'm so excited to try this out!
Yep - download the free Kindle app! It added the phone to my Kindle account so I can send a book to one or both devices.
I usually have to refresh the app when I open it (doesn't sync when I'm not using it) but it's still very handy at places like the DMV or doctor's office!
me too! i love my kindle. i used to get everything from the library, but now i prefer to read on the kindle instead. it's *fantastic* for vacations. I never worry ahead of time what books to pack, and i'm a very light packer - i hate lugging around all that extra weight of multiple books. i just read whatever i have on the kindle, and if none of those appeal to me, i just get another book! there are also a lot of free books, mostly older classics, but i've been having fun rereading little women, anne of green gables, etc - all the ones i loved as a child. there are often newer books that are free or severely discounted, so i check the kindle top sellers frequently.
also, i was never a "physical book lover" - the new book smell, opening up the cover for the first time, etc. i'm a bit anal about my books
- i'm really careful about not creasing the spine, etc, and they look brand new when i'm finished with them. so like a pp, i too, love that i can read with one hand, while eating breakfast, etc.
there's also a kindle app for pc, and they all sync so you can just pick up reading wherever you left off.
