Whew! What a day! We were at the photog's studio from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.! This was Libby's third venture out into the world (first was leaving the hospital last Wednesday, followed by the ped's appt. last Friday).
I am not going to lie. It was an exhausting day...especially for Libby. She nursed, cried, pee'd, pooped and carried on until 1:30 p.m.T here was a moment when I considered wrapping it up and rescheduling because she was literally screaming (I've never heard or seen her like that)! I ducked into the bathroom to get myself together (my bewbies were leaking due to her crying and I could feel myself getting upset) and Joseph and Malisa (the photog) calmed her down and finally started shooting baby and daddy shots.
After some family pics and pics with mommy, she was FINALLY exhausted enough to get the adorable newborn pics we wanted. Here are three sneak peeks that our photog put up on FB:

When you see these cute NB photos it never occurred to me to think what the baby and parents and photog go through to get the shots. For those of you who had your newborn photographed professionally...did you experience something similar? Or was your baby the same sweet, sleepy angel that you have at home? I am thrilled the shots are great because if they weren't I would have felt like we tortured Libby today for nothing. The bright side? She was so tired this afternoon that the two of us slept for 3 hours straight!
Re: AW: Libby's Newborn Shoot (sneak peeks)
love them! what a sweet angel. i love the smile in the last pic
i'm not sure it was really traumatic but we did struggle quite a bit and it was not easy! the photog told me to feed her right before the session so she was nice and full and sleepy so she was good for a few shots at the beginning but then she kept waking up and not wanting to cooperate...she'd start fussing and we'd calm her down and as soon as she was set down she'd start fussing again. occasionally it would escalate to crying but if we picked her up and rocked her, she'd calm down. she didn't start wailing or anything like that. she did pee twice and poop once, of course and that was fun LOL ...the photog was great and had a small space heater that she would hold right next to A to keep her warm and that seemed to help a lot. during one point, we tried taking a break and letting me nurse her to calm her down and get her sleepy again but for some reason she would just not nurse well! it was soooo frustrating. towards the end we could tell that she had just had enough, so after about 5 hours of trying to get good shots, we decided to re-schedule for 3 days later... that time, things seemed to go much faster/better and it only took about an hour to get the rest of the shots we needed. i was really glad we re-scheduled and didn't push her any further the first day.

We did have trouble getting her to sleep but she never got hysterical... Basically we were all set for the photog to come over on Friday after I got home from the hospital but her kid got sick and she had to reschedule. She came that next Monday afternoon -- but we had a pediatrician appt in the morning, so I wasn't able to do as long of a feeding and she was pretty alert.
Our photog also brought a space heater. She tried for a while to get her to go to sleep, I got peed on and nursed a lot... She finally conked out and we raced to get all the shots. I didn't get everything I wanted but we got some good shots... It is what it is. :-)
I love those pictures of Libby, esp the one with "Introducing Libby" tied to her! What a cutie pie she is!

Ohhh, Lori, there's nothing like your baby crying to turn a new mama's hormones into chaos. Not fun when that happens.
Maybe just an overstimulation thing.
I didn't do a photoshoot with Maya when she was a newborn, or anything but I did go through that trying time of taking her out 10 days after she was born and having her go ballistic.
The photos are gorgeous however! She is delectable!
She's so incredibly beautiful.
We did our newborn pics at home and had the same issue.
Thanks for saying so Renee...I guess I had no idea what an ordeal it would be for my little 10 day old girl. It never occured to me that we hardly put her down (I wear her like 14-16 hours a day right now) and duh! She'd need to be secure with that for pics. I did play photog with her on her one week bday and she was fine for it. But it was only for 15 minutes and it was during her "awake" time.
Yes, same with Libby. The studio was heated to the max and then all of the photo lights...it was INTENSE! I finally had to step into the window of walls foyer to cool us both off. I used a wipe behind her neck and down her back to cool her down and asked the photog to turn down the heater (we keep ours set to 66-68 and she gets a lot of skin2skin time with me and J right now and runs hot, so I am sure she felt like she was roasting in the studio).TTC/PG Blog | Mommy Blog
Thanks. I borrowed that idea from someone's blog. The ribbons were from shower gifts and I made the tag with an index card, cut off the corners and hole punched it. It was blank...the photog added the text with her magic editing. I have asked her to do a version with Libby's birthdate and stats...for her announcement.

Thanks. I am glad I am not the only one. You see these gorgeous, sleepy newborn pics and have NO idea that to exhaust them to that point is an ordeal. In the end, it was worth it and I never felt we were neglecting her and just letting her cry and cry, but I have seriously never heard/seen her so upset. Not even when she was born or when they were poking her for blood, etc.
I am glad we got the pics and I am sure all is forgiven now...she's a happy clam tucked into her baby wrap and snoozing away as I type...smooshy face, lips and all!

Those are great pics. I love them all & can't wait to see the rest.
From pp, I see that these newborn shoots are not nearly as easy as they look! Something that definitely never crossed my mind!!

They are so beautiful Lori, you would NEVER have guessed Libby was giving a good fight.
As a new photog myself, the research I've done about newborn photography really makes you aware that this can happen and it does. I'm glad everything worked out well and it looks like your photographer captured some beautiful images of her.
She's so precious!
She put two more up today:

Squeee! I cannot wait for ALL of the proofs...how will I narrow it down for the annoucement?

Wow, I LOVE all of the pictures! Libby looks so precious and angelic! You really would never know all the trouble you guys went through. Maybe for your announcement you could do a 3 of your faves if its too tough to pick just one.
Awwww, those are gorgeous! Libby is just so beautiful. She looks so calm in all of them you would have never guessed it was such an ordeal.
Cassie was a complete angel for the majority of her newborn shoot, only getting restless near the end because she wanted her paci. The last photos are hilarious because the paci blocks so much of her little face.
I can't wait to see the rest of Libby's!
