I need more healthy vibes, please!

If you can believe it, I'm back at square one with this bronchitis. After the second round of antibiotics, I got better for about a week and a half and it started coming right back, worse than the first time. This bug is BAD. So I went back to my doctor (yet, again) and she prescribed a very low dose of steroids, some cough suppressant with codeine (that only worked the first time I used it) and more aerosol.

Well, after two days of this treatment, I hadn't noticed even a little bit of improvement. So last night, when I was having real difficulty breathing through my coughing attacks, I ended up at the hospital. The ER doctor was horrified at my treatment history. His exact words were "these private doctors are crazy." It was obvious that my illness was a viral strand of bronchitis and that my doc should have prescribed a high dose of steroids when the first bout of antibiotics didn't work. Well, needless to say, I am going to have a bone to pick with my doctor on Monday (their office is closed today). I have been suffering with this for all this time and have missed a week of work in total because she misdiagnosed me.

So, now I'm on a much higher dose of prednisone, a narcotic cough suppressant that actually helped me get some sleep last night and still using my nebulizer every six hours. My body is just ravaged. I'm exhausted, my whole torso is so sore I can barely touch it, and my throat is raw from coughing so much. I could definitely use any T&P you can send my way.

Moral of the story: Always, ALWAYS get a second opinion.

  • Oh goodness!  I'm so sorry you are still going through this, and with a misdiagnosis.  Hope you feel better quickly!

  • Eli, that sucks!  healthy vibes are going your way.  Hope you feel better really really soon!
  • Eli, i'm so sorry that you're going through this.. being sick is the worst and it just makes the things/tasks around you such a drag. I hope you feel better soon.

  • Thanks, girls. Luckily, my DH stayed home today to take care of me and he is cleaning the house and taking care of chores I've been unable to do.

    He is the BEST!

  • Oh no Eli!!! Hope you get better soon!!! And please look for a new Dr....some just don't pay any attention to their patients.  I'm glad you got a second opinion.
  • I can't believe you could have been better all this time if only your doctor hadn't misdiagnosed you. That sucks. Hopefully now that you are on the right medication you will get better real soon.

Lots of healthy vibes being sent your way.

  • Oh no, Eli! :(  I saw some of your updates on FB but I can't believe you had to go to the ER!  I have to agree with the ER doctor, I don't think your GP treated you well.  I mean he should have realized after course one of treatment that he was wrong in his diagnosis.  If I were you, I would probably switch.  I love my doctor if you want a rec, he is a great GP and literally everyone in my family goes to him. He's located in Plantation.

I feel you on the steroids!  While I haven't been on prednisone, I think they are all pretty much the same.  Don't worry if your face bloats or if you gain some water weight, it's totally normal and eventually goes away - although it's extremely frustrating!

Hopefully this finally works!! I hope you get better soon! Rest!

  • Thanks for all the good vibes, girls. The meds are working little by little because I'm definitely doing better today than yesterday.
