question for moms: baby wipes?

I've been considering two options for our soon-to-be baby.

1) reusable baby wipes such as these which supposedly come with a plastic zippered carrying case. I think I've seen some sites that tell you how to moisten the cloth wipes.

Option 1

2) Make something like this out of a huggies travel disposable wipes case and then I would be creating my own disposable wipes which I think are essentially half a paper towel moistened in a homemade solution.

Option 2

Important factors for me are something that I can easily take on the go, but at this point I feel like the disposable ones would be easier to deal with. We are going to be cloth diapering and laundering the diapers at home, so I guess if I was using a wet bag it wouldn't matter and everything would just get thrown in there. What are your experiences, advice, preferences? TIA!!

Re: question for moms: baby wipes?

  • I usually just use a disposable wipe case and keep a few wet wipes in there when I'm out of the house.  Sometimes I buy the flushable ones because DH likes those, but I personally prefer the cloth wipes.

At home I keep them warm and wet them wet just water.  I used to keep wet wipes in a plastic wipe container in a solution (monkey doodlez cubes) but I have since stopped wiping for pee, so I don't need as many wipes, and therefore prefer to wet them as I go.

I don't find disposable wipes easier tp deal with on the go, because what do you do with them? You can't throw poopy wipes in somebody's trash can? or even at a restaurant? gross.  At least you take the cloth ones back with you.  Flushables can at least get disposed of easily.

  • We just use baby washcloths as wipes and have for the past year and a half. I bought a couple packages and have maybe 2 dozen that I use just for this. I wet them as needed. I used to pre-wet them, but they get smelly if you don't use them in time and that was especially an issue for on the go. I keep them in a plastic wipes container (I think it's Huggies; it's just what I already had!)

ETA: It really is easy to just throw them in the wetbag with the diapers and launder as usual. No need to look for a trashcan, and as PP mentioned, kind of gross to throw just poopy wipes in the trash.

I don't have a baby yet, but ditto this exactly...and honestly if you are cloth diapering anyway, it will be SO easy to just throw the wipes in with the diapers!

If you want to support a fellow nestie, check out this etsy store and her 'Dirty Dipes Butt Wipes'  -- not only is the name super cute haha, the wipes themselves are adorable! and cheap, too :)

I actually have a set of THESE unpaper towels and am going to be reviewing them on my blog next week. They are great!! They seriously work so much better than the birdseye cloth I was using before from a different etsy seller...that stuff just pushes the water around. The quality is great, and they're a-freakin-dorable.

    HTH!

  • This is going to sound super gross, but this is what we do.

We use disposable wipes on the go.  We just keep refilling a travel case.  Once we use them, they go in the wetbag with the diaper.  When we get home I dump them into our diaper champ.

We mostly do this becuase I have a million wipes and since we now use cloth diapers and wipes, I need to use them up.  Once they are all gone, I'll have to come up with a new system for using our cloth wipes when out and about.
