Stinky

I just read your grocery fail.

There's a Costco in Northern VA that's only about 10 minutes from the city (as long as you don't go during rush hour). There is also a Harris Teeter in Dupont that everyone raves about, a WholeFoods between 16th and 17th that I really like, and a Trader Joes at 25th(?) and Pennsylvania that we always went to. Oh, and there's a real Safeway in Georgetown that has a parking lot and everything. They're still not going to be incredibly convenient for you, but it won't take an hour and a half to get to them either.

Peapod by Giant is the delivery service out there. We never used it, but I knew people who swore by it. I think the delivery charge is only like $2, so if you load up on stuff it's really worth it.

Re: Stinky

  • I'm seriously considering getting meat & perishables delivered. There's a CVS next-door that has an adequate boxed/canned good section, and it's worth it to not have to listen to my husband cuss out traffic for 90 damn minutes.
  • The worst part of (semi-)living there was learning to do the grocery shopping every damn day. You basically just buy what you need for a meal at a time, because it's a b1tch to carry a week's worth of groceries home.
  • There's also a Whole Foods on P street between 14th & 15th that has an underground parking garage. You can shop AND park, which is almost unheard of in the city.

Hmm, we might be talking about the same WholeFoods. I think I got my street numbers mixed up.
